Resident Evil 7: Capcom Uses Dramatic Horror and Sticks to Survival-Horror for the Spin-Offs!

Capcom has announced that Resident Evil 7 is going to be a dramatic horror game, as opposed to what the fans were expecting from the franchise.

Survival horror as a mode of gameplay appeals more to the players of the Resident Evil franchise as it places far more challenges and scope for the players instead of mere dramatic horror game mode.

In the survival mode, players do not have much ammunition and are rather weak compared to their opponents. They rely heavily on their ability to escape the evil opponents with their capability of running away or hiding, instead of one-on-one combat. While in the dramatic horror mode, the players fight it out and shoot the evil opponent to kill and move ahead in the game.

Resident Evil 6 was the most successful instalment when one looks at it from the sales perspective. However, fans hope that the developers would stick to the old school phenomenon when it comes to the Resident Evil games.

Fans were hoping that in Resident Evil 7 the players could use tactics and strategies to escape and outsmart the evil elements, but according to what the developers have revealed, the game will be about the players facing evil head-on and fighting it out for survival.

There are rumours that Capcom is having budget problems due to the financial crisis and hence using dramatic horror in Resident Evil 7 would make them exceed their game developing budget. However, this justification is not quite believable as there are many low budget games that employ survival horror successfully.

In reality, Capcom saw that Resident Evil 7 became the highest grossing franchise for them, and they are simply sticking to the dramatic mode for this sole reason. They do not want to try something new and end up losing their sales. They feel that the fans enjoyed the dramatic horror with all its action and shooting. Fans would go on to buy Resident Evil 7 because they would know that it is similar to the previous instalment when it comes to the gameplay.

While Capcom is focusing on their new fans with Resident Evil 7 and the dramatic horror mode, they haven’t forgotten the old fans who have played and loved the initial Resident Evil game. They are re-launching the first Resident Evil game that was released in 1996, on different gaming consoles, early in 2015.

Resident Evil 7

This shows that Capcom hasn’t completely given up on survival horror mode. They are using dramatic horror for the main games in the Resident Evil franchise, like Resident Evil 7, but the spin-offs from the franchise, like Revelations have stuck to their survival horror roots.

  1. This is kind of disappointing, I was hoping they would go back to the RE1 and 2 play style, but I am not mad about it, I actually enjoyed RE6.

    1. you nuts? re1,2 had a bad gameplay and they were totally suck if you want re1 or 2 then play it. we don’t need the same thing again.

  2. My ideas for Resident Evil 7 is bring back some survival-horror roots and i don’t mind re7 being like re4-6 like it was now but they need to at least bring some survival horror roots and make it some scary.

  3. Resident evil might disappointingly be more action than horror but that can also be forgiven if capcom have for 1 thing a core story rather than 6’s split up of 6 or more different scenarios. Also maybe not such OTT mutants. Keep them simple but deadly, like pyramid head or mr x. Just examples and nothin more, but thats what the game needs is a memorable villain. Not like 6 where the closest thing to a memorable villain was that girl who ended up a naked mutant. 6 got the graphics spot on but like I said 2 many broke up scenarios. By far the best was leons but I did also enjoy piloting the chopper :)

  4. Oh and I forgot to mention id like a return to puzzle solving. Like a game within a game to get your mind thinking. Used to love them in old resident evil and especially silent hill. Infact PT on ps4 kinda brought it back but made it way 2 hard to figure out alone. Anyway long story short bring back finding items that you use on doors or other objects that you have to twist and turn and pull and push to reveal a code or path to bring you to the next part of the game. Dunno bout everyone else but it felt so rewarding after the amount of effort to clear that bit to go on ahead and see whats next to do
