Over the last few months you might have been seeing 5 Seconds of Summer in the news and wondering what exactly that is. Well, 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) is a boy band from Australia and the lead guitarist/drummer is Luke Hemmings. The odds are real good that you know that name, mostly because he has been in the news a little more often than the band as a whole. Most recently, you might have seen that one of the members hit the road, leaving fans wondering why.
Those fans, by the way, have been very loyal to the band through some hard times and a world tour and that is part of the reason that the band got the “Best Fan Army Award” at the iHeart Radio Music Awards recently. The band has been very busy and recently closed out the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, which ended in a slim shower that most of us might remember seeing on television during out childhood.
Besides winning awards, touring the world and being slimed during an awards show, the band has been reportedly working with Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx. The band is going to be partnering up with Sixx for some projects in the near future according to sources online. This news first broke on Sixx’s Twitter page, shortly after he congratulated the band on their iHeart Radio Award. Sixx also mentioned that one band member had a “nice shirt”, referring to the fact that Clifford was wearing a Motely Crue shirt when they ran into Nikki Sixx.
Luke Hemmings and 5 Seconds of Summer have been reveling in the success that started last year sometime when their first album hit the top of the charts here in the United States. According to sources, this project with Sixx is going to include the next album which the band confirmed will be put out this year. If you have been paying attention, you might remember Luke Hemmings from the YouTube videos that he posted over the last few years.
Those videos on YouTube are exactly what got the bad recognized and the rest is history according to the band members. The videos showed the band covering popular songs and many of them went viral in a short amount of time. The band really got thrust into the spotlight when One Direction invited them to tour with them as the opening act. Since then, the band has been all over the world and even though they are referred to as a “boy band” all of the members are denying that claim.
