Filming for the “Assassin’s Creed” movie will begin this coming fall with Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillar already confirmed for the lead roles.
The movie adaptation of the hit stealth action-adventure game from Canadian game developer Ubisoft will be hitting world theaters on December 21, 2016.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillermot confirmed the first movie adaptation to the “Assassin’s Creed” franchise and that the film will either have Renaissance in Italy, the American Revolution, Pirates in the Caribbean, and Spanish Inquisition as possible settings.
Guillermot announced early this year that production company New Regency has given the “Assassin’s Creed” movie a green light and that the announcement was a major milestone for Ubisoft and the development team of the “Assassin’s Creed” franchise, reports Venture Capital Post.
Lead stars
Michael Fassbender of “Prometheus” and “X-Men: Days of the Future Past” will be producing the movie adaptation of “Assassin’s Creed” and he will be the lead star along with Marion Cotillard.
It will be a sort of reunion for Fassbender and Cotillard as they shall also be starring in the upcoming British drama film “Macbeth,” which was primarily based on the play of British playwright William Shakespeare.
As the lead star, Fassbender is expected to take on the role of one of the great and renowned assassins of the game while Cotillard’s role has yet to be announced. Apparently, New Regency is very secretive about the ongoing pre-production work for “Assassin’s Creed” movie but given the versatility of the actress, she can most certainly handle just about any role that shall be assigned to her.
New Regency and Ubisoft will apparently work together in the production to ensure that the movie adaptation of “Assassin’s Creed” comes out very good and perhaps surpass the expectations of both fans and gamers.
Present-day setting
In addition to a historical setting, there are reports going around that “Assassin’s Creed” movie shall also have a present-day setting. It would be like what is happening in the game where the protagonist uses “Animus” to transport himself back in time and personally experience the memories of his ancestors.
Reports have it that Fassbender will use the same device in the film to travel back in time. This actually opens up a scenario where he gets to play as an assassin in each era of the film history and shall culminate all the way to the present time.
Initial reports also stated that Michael Fassbender shall be playing the role of assassin Aguilar de Agarorobo and he will be facing main villain Tomas de Torquemada in the movie.
Ubisoft’s upcoming game this year “Assassin’s Creed Victory” shall likely benefit from the media mileage and exposure that the movie will be getting once filming starts in the next couple of months. “Assassin’s Creed Victory” is expected to hit next generation gaming consoles towards the end of this year.
