The truck’s engine is a brand new V6 design that isn’t used in any other Lexus or Toyota model though, and it looks like it has the potential to overtake the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon in terms of performance and fuel economy, but we’ll have to wait and see.
The engine will be offered together with two types of transmissions, a six-speed automatic gearbox and a six-speed manual option, so there should be something for everyone in there. Of course, drivers who truly care about their fuel economy are likely going to lean towards the manual option, but they shouldn’t automatically disregard the automatic gearbox either.
Technology has come a long way and vehicles today are quite smart at determining the best driving conditions for their fuel economy. Those who are skeptical of what the new Tacoma can offer in this regard should wait for the numbers to be revealed as it’s entirely possible that the truck will surprise with its specifications once they have been made public.
