According to MIUI, beginning on August 24, they have started releasing a support for the following Xiaomi devices: Redmi Note 4G, Redmi Note 3G, Mi 4, Mi 3, Mi 4i, Redmi 2, and Redmi 1S. The listed handsets can download the MIUI 7 Global beta ROM via OTA.
The development team added that they will have regular updates on the Global beta ROM every two weeks. They also vowed that they will continue the optimization of Xiaomi’s Global beta ROM.
In addition, the site provided a step-by-step procedure on how Xiaomi users can update their smartphones to its Global beta ROM. For the Xiaomi owners who already have the MIUI global beta ROM in their handsets, they may open the “Updater” app and check if there are available upgrades. On the other hand, the users who are using a stable ROM need to download the ROM first before they can install it.
Another alternative to get the update is to download the entire ROM file in the site’s thread then install it afterward. However, the MIUI team reminded the users who are eager to get the latest Global beta ROM that they must make sure to have a backup of their files before installing the ROM file.
The main highlights of the latest ROM upgrade are the following: four new system UIs; XXL text; new showtime, where the user can set videos or pictures of contacts in the device so those can be shown every time the owner needs to watch them; new baby album, where all baby pictures are grouped in one place; quick OTP; and a smart SMS filter.
It is noticeable that Redmi Note 2 was not included in the list of phones that are set to receive the MIUI 7 Global beta ROM. The reason behind this is that the MIUI 7 ROM has already been installed in the phablet prior to its public launch early this month.
