The big names in the gadget manufacturing business have been going big as of late. Apple has started the ball rolling last September when it launched its giant tablet called the iPad Pro, which will officially make it to the markets this month.
There are also rumors that Samsung would follow suit and launch its Galaxy Tab S Pro to rival Apple’s giant tablet and the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 that was just launched last month.
So whenever a device comes out with the word Pro on its name, it usually means that it’s a bigger version of a base model.
Apparently Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is joining the Pro bandwagon when leaks started coming out last week that it is planning to launch a bigger version of its popular Redmi Note 2 that it just launched in August. But the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Pro would not be big in physical size but in some key specifications compared to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2.
The fastest selling smartphone
It can be recalled that just 12 hours after the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 officially made it to the Chinese smartphone retail markets on September 5, it has sold over 800,000 units.
At a price tag of $125, the high-end technical specifications of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 are actually more than its value in the market, making it a great buy. The Chinese smartphone maker developed the Redmi Note 2 for consumers looking at owning flagship smartphones on a tight budget.
After two weeks in the Chinese market, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 has already exceeded 1.5 million units sold. The extraordinary selling record set by the Redmi Note 2 officially makes it the world’s fastest selling smartphone and one of the best mid-range handsets in the market today.
The Redmi Note 2 just build on the gains of the other high-end technical specifications smartphones of Xiaomi including the Redmi 2 and the Redmi 2A which now have a combined sales figure of 13 million sold units.
The coming of the Pro
Based on the leaks of the phablet on My Drivers, a prominent Chinese website that prides itself with credible and reputable sources, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Pro will have a metallic back panel with three holes in the back for the camera, the flash, and the fingerprint scanner.
The same leaks also indicate that the speaker of the smartphone will be placed at the bottom of the rear cover, slightly below the Xiaomi’s ‘mi’ branding. The power cum lock button alongside the volume buttons is located on the right side of the device.
Reports have it that Xiaomi will be officially launching the Redmi Note 2 Pro this month because the phablet has just passed China’s 3C certification, reports the India edition of the International Business Times.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Pro features a 5.5-inch full HD display, a 2.2GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6795 processor with PowerVR G6200 GPU, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage with an option to add extra memory via a microSD slot. It also sports a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 5-megapixel front snapper, and a 3,060 mAH.
The leaks from the Chinese website were also confirmed by Steve Hemmerstoffer of @OnLeaks Twitter account when he posted an image of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Pro on October 31 and captioning it by hinting that the device would come out with a metal back. Hemmerstoffer is a prominent tipster when it comes to mobile gadgets, notes NDTV Gadgets.
While Xiaomi has yet to make an official announcement or statement about its latest handset, what is clear from the leaks is that the Redmi Note 2 Pro is an advanced version of the Redmi Note 2.
Other than the metal back and the fingerprint scanner, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Pro will reportedly feature the same specifications as that of the Redmi Note 2.
