Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi is taking the next big step by preparing the groundwork for the entry of its upcoming flagship smartphone Xiaomi Mi5 in the US and other western markets in a bold attempt to compete with the world’s major smartphone manufacturers.
Xiaomi is the world’s third largest smartphone manufacturer, next only to Samsung of South Korea, and Apple of the US.
On January 15, the company launched the Xiaomi Mi Note and the Xiaomi Mi Note Pro in Beijing that somehow put in question whether Xiaomi Mi5 will still push through or not.
Xiaomi’s co-founder and president Bin Lin said previously that the company will unveil its next flagship device in January 2015. Everybody was thinking that it is to be the Xiaomi Mi 5 but it did not.
Thus, it follows that the current flagship smartphone of Xiaomi is no longer the Xiaomi Mi4 but already the Xiaomi Mi Note until such time that the company rolls out the Xiaomi Mi5, which according to rumors will be made towards the end of the year.
However, there are also rumors that Xiaomi will already retire its Mi5 with the emergence of the Mi Note, but the company has not made any announcement to confirm or deny such speculations.
Features and specs
The Fuse Joplin reports that when initial rumors about the device came out, reports have it the Xiaomi Mi5 would be powered by either a Snapdragon 805 or Snapdragon 810, both processors are 64-bit chipsets.
But latest leaked images of Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship smartphone indicate that the device would be running on the less powerful Snapdragon 801 processor and it will only have 2GB of RAM instead of the previously rumored 3GB RAM.
Despite this setback the Xiaomi Mi5 still managed to log in impressive results on benchmark tests.
In terms of look, the device is rumored to be only 5.1 mm thick and that it actually looks a lot like the iPhone 6 Plus and the Galaxy Note 4. The Xiaomi upcoming flagship also appears to have stick to the flat screen design although it looks like it was patterned after Apple’s device.
The leaked image of the handset also shows that the logo of Xiaomi is on the top left corner of the phone. The Mi5 also has thinner bezels than its predecessor, the Mi4.
Doing an Apple strategy
While recent reports indicate that Xiaomi has been claiming that other smartphone manufacturers are copying its smartphone designs, the aggressive Chinese company seems to be taking on the Apple launching strategy for its previous iPhones.
Apparently, Xiaomi will be launching two devices when it officially rolls out its new flagship smartphones. Reports have it that in addition to Xiaomi Mi5, the company will also be launching the larger Xiaomi Mi5 Plus sometime at the end of the year.
Insiders said that the Xiaomi Mi5 will sport a 5.2-inch touch screen display while the Xioami Mi5 Plus will feature a 5.7-inch screen display.

Hola, soy 1 fans de XIOAMI, y el 15/01 fue decepcionante ya que se esperaba el MI5. Por favor, mantenednos informados. Gracias.
