The four horsemen of the Apocalypse in the bible’s book of Revelations symbolize conquest, war, famine, and death, considered as the harbingers of the last judgment, or the end of the world to some.
However, in the Marvel universe of the X-Men, Apocalypse is a villain mutant who will be going up against a band of good mutants. But the villainous mutant will not be taking everybody by his lonesome, as he shall reportedly have some cohorts with him to spread his evil ways.
In the movie “X-Men: Apocalypse,” the big bad villain shall have for a main cohort the mutant Caliban, who has mutant-locator powers similar to Professor X’s Cerebro device in the past “X-Men” movies.
It would seem like Caliban will use his powers to locate and recruit other mutants to the cause of Apocalypse, the same way that Magneto did in past “X-Men” films.
Whenever the mutant Caliban is mentioned, his name is always associated with the Morlocks, which are mutants who live in hiding, forming an underground community.
The Morlocks first appeared in “X-Men: The Last Stand” where their leader Callisto, played by Dania Ramirez, also had the mutant-locating powers of Caliban.
In the Marvel Comics, Caliban’s strange looks and his mutant-locating ability helped Callisto formed the Morlocks for others like them.
But in “X-Men: Apocalypse,” he will be more than a help to Callisto and the Morlocks as he will likely serve Apocalypse in exchange for his personal vendetta against anti-mutant groups who have killed other Morlocks.
Angel in a cage
The mutant Angel has always been one of the good guys in “X-Men” but it seems like he will have a reversal of role in the upcoming “X-Men: Apocalypse” due to hit worldwide theaters on May 27, 2016.
Director Bryan Singer previously teased the concept art for Angel in a cage with his glorious wings fully expanded. The director recently shared three more image teases for “X-Men: Apocalypse” on his Instagram account, the first of which is regarding Angel, played by British actor Ben Hardy, where the mutant is shown not just in a cage but actually in a fight club.
The first photo showed Hardy in a cage, screaming while on the other monitor, there is an announcer of some sort while there are plenty of cheering spectators in the background, indicating that it is a cage match for a fight club, details Screen Crush.
The fight club is said to be in Berlin. The second photo shows Director Singer standing under the wreckage of a giant metal ‘X’ while the third image depicts of potentially new costumes behind a glass door for the other characters in the film, cites Newsarama.
During the ComicCon 2015 held in San Diego last month, Oscar Isaac, who plays the titular villain Apocalypse, disclosed that Angel will be one his character’s four horsemen in the film including Olivia Munn’s Psylocke, Alexandra Shipp’s Storm, and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto.
Angel and Storm would appear to be momentary villains of sort in the film until they wake up from their true senses as everybody knows that Storm and Angel are good guys.
Concluding third film
“X-Men: Apocalypse” is the concluding third film in a trilogy that includes the “X-Men: First Class” shown in 2011 and the “X-Men: Days of the Future Past” released in 2014.
Just like its two predecessors, “X-Men: Apocalypse” is touted to become a big blockbuster considering the already huge and still growing fan-base of the series.
From the business standpoint, a producer would surely not let a very successful franchise go quietly into the night just like that. That is the reason why Fox is almost moving heaven and earth to make sure that it gets to retain most, if not all, of the series’ main characters.
