World of Tanks Marks a Year of Solid Performance on Xbox 360, Gets Exclusive Map!

“World of Tanks” was a very popular PC title and it managed to attract players in large numbers for years, and it wasn’t very surprising that its release on consoles was met with a lot of positivity from critics and fans alike. Everyone seemed pleased with the way the game was executed, from the gameplay to the graphics, and the online performance was also stable and predictable.

Through this year, the game has managed to establish itself as a popular title on the platform, after it brought in more than 100 million players globally with its original release, and it doesn’t seem that it will start to lose its spot anytime soon, judging by the current trends. If anything, the developers of the game have continued to add even more content to it, and launching new spin-off titles based on the same gameplay premise.

“World of Warplanes” and “World of Warships” have enjoyed similarly successful releases, expanding the game to new types of vehicles and further broadening the range of tactical and strategic options that it offers its players. The original has been downloaded 5.4 million times on the Xbox 360 since its launch, and has been played in 148 different countries.

This was all revealed in a demographic released by Wargaming, developers of the title. Other interesting bits from the release include that players like the “Winter” camouflage most, and the M3 Lee is the most popular tank of all, followed by the T29 and the VK 36.01 (H) in the third spot.

Players on the Xbox 360 version of the game are also going to get a nice surprise from the developers, in the form of a brand new, completely exclusive map. Set in the Philippines, it should give players a very interesting battlefield to fight on, as this was one of the areas in World War 2 that saw very little use of tanks and other types of armor due to its terrain.

The implications for the map’s gameplay are huge, and according to Chad Steingraber, senior designer on the game, this is a completely new type of map the likes of which players have never seen before. It’s called “Pacific Island”, and will be very hilly in its terrain, greatly limiting what players can see at any given moment, while also regularly leaving them exposed and vulnerable.

While it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it certainly sounds like a refreshing change of scenery, plus we’re sure that the guys at Wargaming know exactly what they’re doing, after all the experience they’ve gathered making the game so far and bringing it to its current level.
