The premier of the experimental American reality TV series “Married at First Sight” may have ushered a novel concept on the small screen when it first aired in July of last year but following the series finale of Season 2 recently where all the three couples in the show have broken up, the series has really nothing much to go on for Season 3 next year.
Among the three couples, Jaclyn Methuen and Ryan Ranellone have recently stated they are already planning to file for divorce. Jessica Castro and Ryan De Nino, as well as Davina Kullar and Sean Varricchio, have also broken up, thus ending whatever good premise the show is anchored on.
Unless the show chalks up the three as failed marriages and starts with a clean slate for Season 3, it would really be too difficult to have two people work things out if they have already decided that they have enough of each other already.
One couple even got to the extreme point when Jessica and the other cast members had to file a temporary restraining order against Ryan De Nino because he threatened to kill her and her family after she found out that he has been cheating on her with a lesbian, details Yibada.
Selection process under scrutiny
Because of what happened to the three couples in “Married at First Sight” Season 2, many people have criticized the show for having a poor selection process on the couples that they are marrying on the first sight in the show. They believe that the criteria were not stringent enough thus ending the relationships in a sad note.
However Chris Coelen, CEO of Kinetic Content, which produces “Married at First Sight” says that the show has an advanced casting team that is deployed in several areas looking for willing and suitable candidates to take part in the social experiment.
He disclosed that in addition to going through dating websites such as Tinder, Match.com, and OkCupid, the team also hang out on several clubs and bars. Coelen added that the chosen candidates go through several background checks and psychological evaluations to ensure that they are capable of handling the stress of being part of the show.
Coelen admitted however that since it is a reality TV series, they could not guarantee that all of the three couples will end up happily ever after because the pairing was based on a high level of research to ensure that each cast is presented with the best candidate.
He also added that they have been very transparent right from the start of the selection process, making sure that each of the contestants was made aware of the repercussions and implications of marrying a complete stranger.
