George R.R. Martin is no stranger to violence in his works, and his fans are mostly used to the fact that he likes to put his characters in dangerous situations at this point. We don’t know exactly what he has planned for “Winds of Winter”, the next installment in his book series, but lately we’ve been hearing some rumors that indicate a possibly very violent plot. And while this is probably not really surprising to any of his fans, it’s still something that inspired people to discuss the next book quite a lot.
What exactly are we going to see in terms of violent developments? Daenerys returning to her homeland is something that many fans have been hopeful to see, and it’s looking like a real possibility – but it might not bring about very positive developments, and in fact, it’s rumored that this will be in the middle of the main plot of the next book in the series. Daenerys coming back to Westeros is apparently going to cause huge issues for everyone around her, and there could be a major violent conflict in the new book, more dramatic than anything we’ve seen in the series so far.
If this turns out to be true, then “Winds of Winter” could easily turn out to be the bloodiest and most violent book in the series so far, and we definitely expect to see some more peculiar plot twists related to characters being killed off. At the same time, there could be a shift of powers that will have major implications for the rest of the story.
Then we also have the subplot of Jon Snow and his fate. It’s been confirmed already that the character has managed to survive the dramatic cliffhanger where we supposedly saw him killed, and now that he’s back for the next book, this could have some peculiar implications for the story. Even though the plot of “Winds of Winter” isn’t going to prioritize him above all, his story will still be an important element of the whole plot and he could tie into the main events in interesting ways.
In the end though, we still have no idea when the book is coming out exactly. It doesn’t help that Martin has been cryptic about his schedule and hasn’t really revealed any details about his plans, although he did drop one or two hints that his fans were quick to latch on to. Currently, it’s speculated that he is preparing the book for a spring 2016 release, and this would also coincide with some other rumors about the author’s supposed plans.
Martin has been known for his slow work schedule and his tendency to make his releases very drawn out, but right now people are growing increasingly more impatient with him due to the importance of this release. For what it’s worth, Martin has obviously been putting effort into getting the book out as soon as possible, cancelling interviews and other appearances and keeping a low profile while he continues to work on the book.
The slow pace of his work on this book actually caused some problems, as the producers of “Game of Thrones” needed some critical information from him in order to continue their work on the show. The crew ended up meeting with the author to discuss his plans for the book so there would be no contradictions for important plot developments. This probably included details like the situation with Jon Snow.
