There has been a lot of hype surrounding the latest installment in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series lately. While fans were expecting to get the new book this year, recent developments seem to indicate that this is not going to happen. The author, George R. R. Martin, has apparently been falling behind schedule with his writing, and may not be able to finish the book by the end of 2015.
However, there are some good news on the horizon – many fans who are following both the books and the TV series “Game of Thrones” based on those books were worried that the new season of the show is actually going to start airing before the book is completed, and will spoil the reading experience for them. Of course, they could always choose not to watch the series in the end, but that doesn’t really resolve the primary issue, as the Internet is always full of discussions about “Game of Thrones” and avoiding spoilers is practically impossible.
Now, Martin has reportedly promised that he’s going to finish the book before season 6 of the show starts airing. While he didn’t give any specific release date, we at least know that the book is coming in no more than one year, according to the current airing schedule for “Game of Thrones”.
Martin added that his life has been pretty hectic trying to finish the book, and he has already cancelled two appearances at conventions in order to focus on his writing more. He’s also been turning down various interviews, and his main goal right now is to just get the book published and out on the market.
He has also reportedly refused to take part in writing the script for season 6 of the show, even though he used to be a regular collaborator with the writers for the TV production. There were, however, reports that that writers of the show had to approach the author at some point, in order to confirm certain plot details so there are no mismatches between their works.
Last but not least, it looks like the wait will definitely be worth it, as Martin has promised a “major plot twist” in the new book, though we have no idea what that could be. Given the way the writer approaches his plots though, this might not be a positive surprise at all. Martin is never afraid to kill off characters when it means moving the story forward in a dramatic way, so this could spell disaster for some characters from his story. But then again, anyone reading the book series should know by now that they must never get too attached to any character.
