“Winds of Winter”, the upcoming newest installment in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series by George R. R. Martin, has been the subject of much debate and arguing within its own community. Fans are confused about what they can expect to read in the new book, especially after the finale of “Game of Thrones”, the TV show based on the book series. Jon Snow, a major character who is a favorite of many fans, was apparently killed – and yet the story was written in such a way that his fate could swing both ways once the show comes back to the screen.
Because of this, fans have been paying a lot of attention to the latest book recently, as news about it could possibly shed some light on what to expect from the TV show. However, at this point it’s pretty much expected by most fans that the show is going to resume before the book is finished, as Martin has been taking his time and the release of his latest work has been delayed by a while.
It’s gotten to the point where the producers of the show had to consult him privately with regards to some details of their planned plot, as they wanted to avoid any conflicts with the next book. Of course, “Game of Thrones” has always taken some liberties with its plot and it’s not that rare for the show to drift away from what has been established in the books previously. However, those changes are usually minor and carefully calculated to avoid disturbing the overall plot. In addition, it’s been specifically confirmed that Jon Snow will face the same fate in both the book as well as the TV show, so whichever comes first is going to shed some light on what we can expect to see in the character’s future.
George R. R. Martin himself has been giving some slight hints that Jon Snow is indeed still alive, although it’s entirely in the writer’s nature to mislead his fans on purpose and spread misinformation about his upcoming works. Until the next book arrives – or “Game of Thrones” resumes, whichever comes first – we can’t know for sure.
And naturally, other people attached to the project have been just as tight-lipped about the situation with Jon Snow as Martin himself, and nobody wants to spill the beans right now. Considering that this is not just one of the biggest cliffhangers in the show itself, but in television in general, we can understand the whole secrecy about the situation. At the same time, some fans have been getting quite crazy with their theories about what might have happened.
One of the most prominent theories among fans of the show right now is that Melisandre will be responsible for bringing Jon Snow back to life, although that could bring certain complications for the character in the long run. It’s possible that we might see a different version of Jon Snow once he’s brought back to the screen, changed from his resurrection. While some fans have been fond of this idea, others don’t seem to enjoy the prospect too much as according to them, it would still mean losing Jon Snow in a way.
