And while it’s true that there are some noticeable differences between “Game of Thrones” and “A Song of Ice and Fire” with regards to how the plot develops, it’s also clear that HBO are trying their best to stick to the original ideas introduced in the book series, and have been mostly successful in preserving the main elements of the story.
Sure, there are occasionally some sharper differences, but in the end, most fans have been happy with the way HBO have handled the conversion of the book series to a TV show.
If nothing else, they’ve at least definitely managed to preserve the feeling of desperation that the characters sometimes face, realizing their hopelessness against the plot machine as it tries to end their lives over and over again.
And often, it succeeds – nobody is truly safe in the world of “Game of Thrones”, just like the characters in “A Song of Ice and Fire” have learned about their own universe a long time ago. And we’d be surprised if the full cast is still alive by the end of the series, as Martin likely has many more surprises planned for his characters, including some not-so-pleasant ones. Hopefully, not too many fans are going to lose their favorite characters, as nobody is really protected in Martin’s stories.
