Microsoft has been in the computer business for a very long time. The company has recently issued a major update to its main PC operating system, called Windows 10. This update, according to sources, is supposed to be a free upgrade to users that have Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1. There are restrictions of course, but the only one is that you must update your system within the next year. If you wait too long, the update will then cost you money.
Those who are going to upgrade to Windows 10 for free, will see that their activation will remain active after the one year is up. Now that Microsoft has issued the update that has been talked about for many months now, the reviews are starting to flow online. The reviews are mixed, as always, but according to one of them, the PC gaming works great, but the Xbox App is full of “dead ends.” The update provides a very fancy look for the Xbox One dashboard according to one reviewer.
The Xbox App is not the same as the Xbox Smartglass App, but you are able to download and install it on the Windows powered phones or tablets. Microsoft plans to build the Xbox App directly into every single copy of Windows 10, regardless of what platform it is on. At some point, the company is hoping that it will have the ability to stream games from your Xbox One, PC or tablet.
At the same time, the idea is to allow developers a platform to enable the PC and Xbox One for combined play. The Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview gives you access to everything on your dashboard including your friends list, your apps, your activity list, your messages, achievements and things like that. As of right now you cannot stream any games with your Xbox One and you cannot play across platforms with your friends, but those features are coming according to Microsoft.
When Windows 10 was announced, it was a rumor that the company was going to offer it has a free upgrade to those that have the more recent copies of Windows. This week that was confirmed by the company and now users are scrambling to make sure they have everything upgraded within the next 12 months. The reason that Microsoft is giving away the upgrade, at first, is that they are trying to reduce the fragmentation of the software. According to reports, the Windows software is installed in more than 90% of the computers all over the world. The problems comes in that 56% run Windows 7, 14% run Windows 8.1 and 18% are still using Windows XP.
