The idea for a “Duck Dynasty” musical has been going around for quite a while now, ever since the book came out in 2012. The initial idea apparently came from their agent, who read the book and immediately told the family that their story has the potential to become a great musical. And it didn’t take long to convince Korie that the idea was something she should consider more seriously, resulting in the recent release of the finished “Duck Dynasty” musical.
The experience has been very emotional for everyone involved, from what we can tell – Korie’s husband was particularly touched by the whole production. Willie Robertson said that it felt “surreal” to see everything unfolding on stage, especially when he remembered that this was his own life being played on stage. It was a very emotional experience, according to him, and one that brought tears to his eyes.
He also went into a little detail about “Camouflage”, the tune from the musical which he described as his own personal favorite. It has a lot of personal value for him, according to his explanation, as the song concerns the struggles Willie and his wife Korie had to go through, and how she supported him through it all and urged him to take over the family business.
The premiere for the musical was at the Rio Hotel & Casino a couple of weeks ago on April 15, and the production dug deep into the various issues that the family has had to deal with throughout their rise to fame, including the serious media scrutiny they were subjected to, and the negativity coming from certain sides in the community.
Responses to the musical have been very positive in general, with some claiming that it’s a high-value production with a lot of merit in the creative world, and it should be seen by everyone who enjoys musicals, not just people interested in the story of the “Duck Dynasty” family. It’s highly likely that we’ll hear more about the production in the news in the coming days, and judging by the current trends, it’s going to be in a positive tone for the most part.
Other than that, the family has been mostly keeping a low profile for their public appearances after the musical was shown. It’s not that they’re trying to avoid the media – they actually don’t seem to mind talking about the musical to journalists at all – but they are also not trying to jump in the middle of the spotlight all the time, as some would in their newfound fame. According to their fans, it just goes to show that the touching tone of the musical was well warranted, as this is a family with values.
