Will the horror return in Resident Evil 7? Apparently, yes! The fans are happy with the recent announcement which states that the newest installment of Resident Evil will witness the franchise returning to its original horror roots. Well, we may not get to see complete 100% of its horror roots but enough to bring back the die-hard fans and make the present ones happier.
The company has made use of a term called, ‘Dramatic Horror’ in order to define the intense level of horror content in this game. You’ll need to play the game in order to properly understand it. The entire concept sounds quite new at the moment.
Anyways, whatever it means, mentioning the term ‘horror’ means we will get to witness Resident Evil in its original glory. It is what the franchise was all about, and gamers are presently quite jubilant regarding it. Earlier, we saw this happening with many other games. The term, ‘horror’, ‘survival’, attracts a lot of gamers, and suddenly the developers decide to change the gameplay and introduce a lot of action in its place.
Nobody knows why it happens, but one can guess that it’s just easier, or the developers face pressure from parents and marketing executives. This is what happened with the ‘Bioshock’ franchise. We had a lot of fun in the initial stages and suddenly it all vanished. The first game was pure horror, while the second game stressed more on action, and the third installment had none of it whatsoever.
Although Resident Evil 6 made great in terms of sales, fans want a better story and gameplay for the seventh installment. It is quite obvious that the previous game enjoyed high sales due to the momentum of the branding associated with it. Apparently, the gamers want more of the sheer horror and survival content while the developers wish to introduce more action-related content.
There needs to be a meeting of minds in order to ensure that Capcom doesn’t lose out on the short, as well as the long term of their sales. The developers are aware that they have a winning property, but they need to stress more on customer satisfaction as that is where the winning started. No one knows the original impact of the critical response regarding Resident Evil 6 on Capcom. However, we just hope that the developers have taken the hint.
In the meantime, Capcom has revealed the release date for Resident Evil: Revelations 2 for the PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One and the PC. This sequel spin-off will be launched in the form of four weekly digital episodes starting on February 18, 2015.
