Recently, the plot of “Downtown Abbey” has been full of drama and lots of heated interactions between the characters, and by the looks of it, this situation isn’t going to improve soon. So far, several major problems have come up, but the most prominent one was revealed last week, when an affair between Lady Mary Crawley and Tony Gillingham was uncovered. And while the characters were originally trying to cover up their situation and lying about their relationship, this will likely not last for much longer, judging by previews for the show’s future episodes.
Lady Mary will have to decide if she still wants to marry Tony tomorrow when episode 4 airs, and meanwhile, Lord Merton will deliver some upsetting news to Isobel. Both relationships seem to be at risk at this point, but it’s not clear how things will end up for the people involved. Which couple will end up with a separation and heartbreak, and who will be left happy from the whole ordeal?
Romantic subplots aren’t all that the new episodes will be about, as there will also be the matter of Mr. Green’s murder. This will be a major focus for the show for a while, as the police are on the trails of the killer, uncovering more and more clues that could potentially lead them to discovering what happened. It doesn’t seem like the police will try to blame Mr. Bates for the incident this time though, which leaves the question of whether Anna and Bates could possibly have a chance of ever being together in a romantic way.
This is something fans have been asking for a while, actually, and if the writers of the show do decide to take the story in this direction, it looks like it will be a welcomed change by many fans. On the other hand, some have been looking at the possibility with a lot of negativity, claiming that the two characters could never possibly get into a relationship due to their respective positions in their lives.
Sarah Bunting will make an appearance in the episode as well, coming up against Lord Grantham, something which has been a surprising twist of events for some fans of the show. However, it’s expected that there is a very particular reason in which the producers are planning to take Sarah’s character, and there has been speculation that she might play an even more major role on the show in the future, although it’s not clear what exactly that could possibly entail. It would certainly be a welcomed change for many fans though, judging by discussions online.
