Because Fox still has not released an official statement renewing the American psychological thriller drama TV series “Wayward Pines” for its third season, rumors started swirling around wildly that the network is seriously considering axing the show.
According to the same set of rumors, Fox was not happy that the show paled in comparison to the upstart psychological thriller “Stranger Things” that recently made its awesome debut in Netflix, notes Game & Guide.
But these rumors are actually in stark contrast to the statement made by Fox TV CEO Dana Walden a couple of weeks ago saying that “Wayward Pines” Season 3 is as good as go.
Walden also said then that the TV series based on Blake Crouch’s novels should continue until it reaches its satisfying conclusion. Just recently Crouch said that the storyline for “Wayward Pines” Season 3 is now already set, reports Mobile & Apps.
Crouch, who is also serving as one of the executive producers of “Wayward Pines,” said that the upcoming season of the show would focus on the Abbies as well as the humans who survived the cryo-suspension. There are also speculations saying that many of the characters may die in “Wayward Pines” Season 3.
Ready to take a risk
Although the second season of M. Night Shyamalan-produced story did not give a big impression and positive ratings, it looks like Fox is ready to take a risk for continuing “Wayward Pines” Season 3.
The Abbies will be the main feature of “Wayward Pines” Season 3 and they, too, might conquer the humanity by transforming humans into their kind. Hence, a battle between the Abbies and the humans shall continue in the upcoming season.
Blake Crouch himself wants to explore the connection of the Abbies and the humans in “Wayward Pines” Season 3. However, it is not yet disclosed how it will unfold. The 38-year-old novelist even asserted that the coming third installment might be the end of the TV series.
He said that he hopes that the series finale of “Wayward Pines” would stay true to the theme and the tone that they have established for the show. He added that he would want a real ending that is honest and have some incredible poignancy and bittersweet moments too.
Having second thoughts about the show
Some of the fans of “Wayward Pines” have expressed their worry that Fox might no longer renew the show for a third season apparently because the network has been having some doubts on the TV series as a whole.
Other fans have also been saying that Season 2 of “Wayward Pines” was quite a slow cooker compared to the crisp Season 1 episodes, which is probably the reason why Fox Television Group CEO Dana Walden is having her second thoughts about the TV series.
But it seems that Walden has already verbally agreed for a Season 3 renewal of “Wayward Pines” when she said in a recent interview that she definitely thinks that the TV series deserves a Season 3. She also commended “Wayward Pines” for being the No. 1 scripted show of the summer, despite having exhausted its source material on its first season alone.
Another factor that Fox is possibly considering at the moment is the huge cliffhanger that was intentionally left by the showrunners during the Season 2 finale in preparation for a Season 3.
Fans have been waiting for some kind of resolutions among the main characters of “Wayward Pines” including Margaret, played by Rochelle Okoye, Adam Hassler, played by Tim Griffin, and Kerry Campbell, played by Kacey Rohl.
There are also reports saying that Season 3 of “Wayward Pines” shall feature a time jump and the storyline will just backtrack on it as the show and the storylines progress.
