‘Wayward Pines’ Season 3 is Definitely a Go As It is the No. 1 Scripted Show Last Summer, Says Fox CEO!

Contrary to rumors going around that Season 3 of the American psychological thriller drama TV series “Wayward Pines” has already been canceled, Fox Chairman and CEO Dana Walden has said in a recent interview that she definitely thinks that the show should have a third season.

She disclosed that the producers of “Wayward Pines” have already shared their ideas to her and she does not see any problem why the TV series would not have a third season considering that it is the No. 1 scripted show last summer, reports Mobile & Apps.

Accordingly, executive producer M. Night Shyamalan and “Wayward Pines” author Blake Crouch have already discussed their ideas to Dana Walden and she said that she will discuss everything with other network executives before making a final decision, notes Game & Guide.

The rumors about the cancellation of the show were fuelled by the reported decline in its ratings. While Season 1 of “Wayward Pines” had an average viewership of 3.8 million, the second season got only 2.4 million. However, counting the show’s DVR ratings, it still pushed the total Season 2 viewership to 3.5 million.

The rating decline is just not enough to cancel the show because critics believe that the producers and showrunners could still do some things to turn things around for the third season of “Wayward Pines.”

Despite the seeming assurance from the Fox Chairman/CEO, many fans of the TV series are still skeptical of the eventual decision of the network since up until this time, the renewal has yet to be announced. So everything about the show is still up in the air.

Need for satisfying conclusion

There are also rumors saying that Fox was not happy that the show paled in comparison to the upstart psychological thriller “Stranger Things” that recently made its awesome debut in Netflix a few weeks ago.

But these rumors are actually in stark contrast to the statement made by Dana Walden a couple of weeks ago saying that the TV series based on Blake Crouch’s novels should continue until it reaches its satisfying conclusion.

Just recently Crouch said that the storyline for “Wayward Pines” Season 3 is now already set.

Crouch said that the upcoming season of the show would focus on the Abbies as well as the humans who survived the cryo-suspension. There are also speculations that many of the characters may die in “Wayward Pines” Season 3.

Conquering humanity

Although the second season of M. Night Shyamalan-produced story did not give a big impression and positive ratings, it looks like Fox is ready to take a risk for continuing “Wayward Pines” Season 3.

The Abbies will be the main feature of “Wayward Pines” Season 3 and they, too, might conquer humanity by transforming humans into their kind. Hence, a battle between the Abbies and the humans shall continue in the upcoming season.

Blake Crouch himself wants to explore the connection of the Abbies and the humans in “Wayward Pines” Season 3. However, it is not yet disclosed how it will unfold. The 38-year-old novelist even asserted that the coming third installment might be the end of the TV series.

wayward pines

He said that he hope that the series finale of “Wayward Pines” would stay true to the theme and the tone that they have established for the show. He added that he would want a real ending that is honest and have some incredible poignancy and bittersweet moments too.

Some of the fans of “Wayward Pines” have expressed their worry that Fox might no longer renew the show for a third season apparently because the network has been having some doubts on the TV series as a whole.
