Ratings-wise, the production has been doing quite well, and we can’t really say that there has been any indication for its possible cancellation on that front. In fact, “Wayward Pines” even managed to surpass some of the original expectations people had for the show, and brought in a significant number of viewers on a regular basis.
Some suspect that this might have been due to Shyamalan’s involvement, but a big name like that can only keep the show running for a few episodes before people realize there’s no point in following it.
In the case of “Wayward Pines”, things were actually going the other way, with more and more people joining the audience of the show and enjoying each episode.
For most outside observers, the decision to give the greenlight for another season of “Wayward Pines” probably looks like a no-brainer. But we never know what might be going on behind the scenes, and what kinds of internal politics could be affecting the current situation of the production.
Hopefully the showrunners and/or Fox are going to address their fans soon enough though, as the rumors have been becoming more and more common and widespread, and this will not be good for the future of the production at all. In fact, it could be a major contributor to its downfall even if a new season did get announced eventually.
