Even though there was some confusion about the future of “Wayward Pines”, most fans are still hopeful that the show will be renewed, and there are rumors that producers actually have some quite interesting ideas for what they want to do with it too. The cast has been expanded, the writing team is exploring new directions, and all in all, it looks like a lot is going to change for the new episodes.
What about the recent rumors of a possible spin-off? This was actually the main reason for some fans to be afraid that the show would be coming to an end, but so far we haven’t heard anything new on that front.
A spin-off from “Wayward Pines” could work, according to some critics, but it would be a risky move considering that the show was already inspired by another popular production. It’s also based on a series of novels, but that’s not very relevant for the issue with the potential spin-off.
Still, it spin-offs usually make sense when they’re not done at the expense of the original production, and it would be a severe disappointment for many followers of “Wayward Pines” to see the show brought to an end so that the producers could focus on something entirely else.
We have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes yet though, and the producers have been reluctant to share any information at all. Fox, the show’s network, is also quiet on that front, and they haven’t addressed the cancellation rumors at all.
The only time Fox have talked about the situation was in a statement which was seen as quite vague by many fans, and it raised more questions than it actually answered. Dana Walden of Fox claimed that she “definitely thinks” the show will continue, but of course, that’s not an official confirmation and the community should not hold on to it too much.
Fans are divided on whether this should be seen as a good sign or a bad one, but still, most are choosing to remain hopeful for the future and are following the more positive rumor mill. There is no shortage of good claims about “Wayward Pines” either, and there are actually talks of some significant developments coming up in the show.
As we said above, the rumors are primarily concerned with the possible addition of new cast members, but it’s also claimed that the writers are going to explore an entirely new, different direction for the show’s new season, one that could shock some fans.
“Wayward Pines” was never a mild production in the first place, and its shock value has always been there, so if the producers really are planning to double that on that trend, this could be a very dynamic, heavy season. Hopefully they know what they’re doing, but everything we’ve seen so far indicates that the crew is very in touch with their community. Of course, the one critical detail that’s still missing is whether or not those rumors are actually true.
On a negative note, we can also see how M. Night Shyamalan may want to move on with his career and explore something else. He will have no trouble continuing his work elsewhere, there’s no doubt about that, but the rest of the people involved in the show might not be so lucky. However, it doesn’t really seem like M. Night Shyamalan was starting to get bored with his work on “Wayward Pines”, so it might not be reasonable to expect that.
