‘Wayward Pines’ Season 2 to Feature a Continuation of the Bizarre Events in Season 1 Surrounding the Strange Idaho Town!

Season 2 of the American psychological thriller drama TV series “Wayward Pines” is to premiere on Fox on May 25, exactly one year from the date of the airing of its Season 1 pilot episode last year.

Contrary to previous speculations that the second season of the TV series will start deviating from what transpired during Season 1, the follow-up season will actually feature a continuation of the bizarre events surrounding the strange town in Idaho, reports the International Business Times of Australia.

However, Season 1 protagonist Matt Dillon is all gone and he is to be replaced for Season 2 by Jason Patric. Critically-acclaimed producer, writer, and director M. Night Shyamalan will continue to serve as executive producer of “Wayward Pines.”

The TV series is based on the novels by Blake Crouch, who is also an executive producer of the show, and its first season had a total of 10 episodes. The second season shall also have the same number of episodes.

Same plotline, new characters

In addition to Jason Patric, other stars of the second season of “Wayward Pines” include Djimon Hounsou, Hope Davis, Melissa Leo, Carla Gugino, Charlie Tahan, and Jason Higgins.

Patric shall take on the role of Dr. Theo Yedlin, who is a new resident of Wayward Pines. He will awaken from a suspended animation and finds himself in the middle of a rebellion even as he tries to understand what Wayward Pines really is. He will eventually work on helping preserve the endangered human race, details the Flickering Myth.

Hounsou, on the other hand, shall portray the role of CJ Mitchum, an original resident of Wayward Pines and a historian for the town with extensive knowledge of its complex origins.

He is the one person who can provide a unique bridge between the current world of Wayward Pines and the previous world that humans inhabited.

Hope Davis returns as Megan Fisher who is responsible for the scientific research being conducted on the Abbies. She remains deeply involved in the development of the hearts and minds of the future of humanity, which was previously referred to in Season 1 as Wayward Pines’ First Generation.

Seven promo trailers

A total of seven promo trailers were already released by Fox to hype up the second season of “Wayward Pines.”

In the trailer titled “Fight,” fans were able to get a closer look of the Abbies. The town residents gathered together and were oriented that they will be safe for as long as they stick together.

In the video clip titled “Volunteers,” the First Generation was featured and they were killing a number of people. The townsfolk were described as being volunteers, to preserve the endangered human race.

Season 2 will serve as an indirect sequel, returning to the world of the strange titular town with both new and old characters.

There were previous reports that Season 2 of “Wayward Pines” will have a new showrunner after Chad Hodge will focus on his new project called “Good Behavior” on TNT. Mark Friedman shall reportedly take over his place as showrunner. Friedman has also served as creator and producer of NBC’s 2014 TV series “Believe.”

“Wayward Pines” is regarded by critics as the welcome return to form of M. Night Shyamalan, who is also serving as showrunner of the TV series and also directed the show’s pilot episode last year.

It is not yet clear whether M. Night Shyamalan shall be helming any of the episodes of “Wayward Pines” in Season 2. But he is certainly returning as executive producer alongside Friedman, Donald De Line, Ashwin Rajan, and Crouch.

Shyamalan is a master of the cliffhanger. He has made several films in the past that leaves the viewers to eventually find the answers to their questions themselves towards the last scenes without much clarity.
