“Wayward Pines” is regarded by critics as the welcome return to form of M. Night Shyamalan, who is also serving as executive producer on the TV series and also directed the show’s pilot episode.
It is not yet clear whether M. Night shall be helming any of the episodes of “Wayward Pines” in Season 2, but he is certainly returning as executive producer alongside Mark Friedman, Donald De Line, Ashwin Rajan, and Blake Crouch.
Shyamalan is a master of the cliffhanger. He has made several films in the past that leave the viewers to eventually find the answers to their questions themselves towards the last scenes without any explanation.
The series finale of Season 1 of “Wayward Pines” also had the same kind of twisted ending, that left audience to wonder whether there will be a Season 2 or not of the show because, at the time of the Season 1 finale, Fox has yet to decide whether to renew the show for a second season or not.
M. Night Shyamalan explained then that he likes that Season 1 gave the audience a clear-cut ending, while noting that he and Blake Crouch already have an idea of what they intend to do for the 10 episodes Season 2 of “Wayward Pines.”
