The fifth episode of the second season of the American psychological thriller drama series “Wayward Pines” will be airing on Fox on June 22 and it promises to give viewers a backgrounder on the mysterious Idaho town.
In order to meet such objective, the show will be bringing back three Season 1 characters including David Pilcher, played by Toby Jones,; Theresa Burke, played by Shannyn Sossamon; and Adam Hassler, played by Tim Griffin; in the episode entitled “Sound the Alarm,” reports Hall of Fame Magazine.
The three characters will play important roles in the history of Wayward Pines but their appearances will be in the form of flashbacks.
Based on the episode 5 synopsis, architect Rebecca will recall the first time that she met David Pilcher and how it paved the way for the establishment of Wayward Pines. Theo will be surprised with Rebecca’s revelation too.
The episode will also see Theresa telling CJ Mitchum, played by Djimon Hounsou, and Adam that she prefers living outside the walls and fences of Wayward Pines.
It will also focus on Megan doing an experiment on the first female Abbie they captured. She will think that the creature has something anthropological going on the inside and she thinks that it could help them kill all the Abbies, the town’s shortened term for Aberrations.
However, Megan shall reportedly overlook one important thing about the Abbies and that is, the creatures communicate with their minds. The captured female Abbie was calm and very quiet but deep inside her head, she was already sending messages to her fellow Abbies through mental telepathy. In fact, that is precisely the reason why two male Abbies shall attack the town in an attempt to rescue their female colleague.
Pales in comparison
Four episodes into Season 2, “Wayward Pines” is getting the raw end of the reviews of a number of critics.
Most of them are saying that the first season was amazing because it featured the perfect marriage of all the elements of a racy mystery series and that there was always a healthy dose of suspense into it, along with ample actions too, particularly during the Season 1 finale.
However, critics felt that Season 2 was a bit of a letdown. The first four episodes paled in comparison to its counterpart episodes in Season 1 and they believe that the show can no longer turn things around and be a hit with its remaining six episodes, details Design & Trend.
Some of the enumerated reasons include the fact that the new characters introduced in Season 2 were not exciting enough and that the show no longer has a mystery and suspense that it does not seem like it’s the work of M. Night Shyamalan.
In addition, when the details about the Abbies were known, viewers no longer care. Jason Patric’s acting also pales in comparison to Matt Dillon’s during Season 1. The show also has this uncanny penchant for killing off all its Season 1 characters, leaving the TV series with new characters. It does not do the show well especially if the new characters are not as interesting as the characters that have been killed off.
The town’s Duster
Incidentally, farmer and historian CJ Mitchum is called The Duster in the town because he slept with everyone in the cryogenic pods but wakes up every 20 years to dust off the pods.
CJ was the only person in the TV series who saw mankind disappear because he would get up every 20 years and turn on the television and see the news. One time, he woke up and there was just now and all the people were gone.
M. Night Shyamalan, one of the executive producers of “Wayward Pines” said that each character who wakes up in the show shall have their own arc and they will go through initiation in their own way.
So even if the viewers know or don’t know the secret to “Wayward Pines,” both sides would be getting information in Season 2 in a fresh way along with the coming in and out of the show’s old characters.
