Wayward Pines Renewal for Season 3 Still in Limbo Nearly Five Months After the Season 2 Finale!

There is still no word from Fox network whether it will be renewing the American psychological thriller drama TV series “Wayward Pines” for Season 3, nearly five months after its Season 2 finale was aired.

The finale episode of “Wayward Pines” Season 2 was aired on Fox on July 27. While there have been reports saying that Fox Chairman and CEO Dana Walden seems amenable for the renewal of the TV series, nothing has been made official as of this time.

The renewal of “Wayward Pines” for Season 3 is still in limbo which is sending alarm bells to its fans and viewers who are very hopeful of a continuation to the exciting plotline involving the battle between the humans and the Abbies.

With the success of the Netflix TV series “Stranger Things” which seems to be in the same genre as “Wayward Pines,” reports have it that Fox wants the producers of its TV series, particularly M. Night Shyamalan and author Blake Crouch, to come up with something better for the third season, notes Mobile & Apps.

Having its second thoughts

Apparently, Fox is having second thoughts about renewing “Wayward Pines” for a third season because it has seen the sharp decline in the ratings of the TV series from Season 1.

Season 1 of “Wayward Pines” posted a rating of over 3.8 million viewers but its second season only netted 2.4 million viewers. However, Season 2 managed to offset the advantage of Season 1 with its strong DVR ratings which helped increased its overall viewing rate to 3.5 million viewers.

Author Blake Crouch believes that if the TV series stays true to the theme and the established tone based on his novels, Season 3 of “Wayward Pines” could surely turn things around for the TV series as far as ratings are concerned.

The author also confirmed that “Wayward Pines” Season 3 is likely to be its last because the source material is just good for three seasons.

He added that there would be no happy ending for “Wayward Pines,” saying that he wants a real ending for the TV series that is honest. He stated that it would probably have some incredible poignancy and bittersweet moments. He assured fans and viewers that the idea of what the last episode looks like is very exciting.

Ready to be back

Despite the uncertain status of “Wayward Pines” Season 3 on Fox, Indian actress Nimrat Kaur is at least ready to reprise Rebecca Yedlin once M. Night Shyamalan and Blake Crouch receive a go ahead. Reports are saying that the actress currently says ‘no’ to whatever TV work in India.

While Nimrat Kaur said that she is open to film projects in India, her priority is TV in the Western hemisphere, details the Parent Herald.

Nimrat Kaur appeared in the “Homeland” series before joining “Wayward Pines” Season 2 as the wife of Jason Patric’s Dr. Theo Yedlin.

At the end of “Wayward Pines” Season 2, Rebecca and Theo Yedlin went back into cryo-stasis because of an imminent domination by the Abbies.

Contrary to rumors going around that Season 3 of “Wayward Pines” has already been canceled, Fox Chairman and CEO Dana Walden has said in a recent interview that she definitely thinks that the show should have a third season.

She disclosed that the producers of “Wayward Pines” have already shared their ideas to her and she does not see any problem why the TV series would not have a third season considering that it is the No. 1 scripted show last summer.

Accordingly, executive producer M. Night Shyamalan and “Wayward Pines” author Blake Crouch have already discussed their ideas to Dana Walden and she said that she will discuss everything with other network executives before making a final decision.
