Ubisoft as a whole have been noticeably improving in recent times too, and that’s certainly good to see, as the studio was headed down a pretty bad path recently. It will be interesting to see if they manage to bring out a proper AAA release sometime soon, and 2017 might be a very fruitful year for them if they keep up the good work.
One of the changes that have been praised the most is the game’s new style, which is a sharp contrast to what it once was. “Watch Dogs 2” is much more vivid and colorful than its predecessor, and this change has actually been a positive one for the game.
That came as a surprise to many, as fans and critics generally saw the gritty atmosphere of the original game as one of its main defining features, and hardly anyone expected a change in this regard to reflect positively on the game.
It’ll be interesting to see if other major franchises could be given a similar “do-over”, moving them to a new visual style that explores their true potential better. Ubisoft’s games in particular are usually quite prone to change from one installment to another, so that may be the case for another one of their big series this year or the next one. In any case, the studio is on the right track.
