VW Okays Settlement Agreement Over Diesel Cars Emission Controversy; Buyback Offers to Owners to Start Soon

The German KBA has approved the proposed software fix for the 2.0-liter diesel engine and has given a general approval for software and hardware fixes proposed for the 1.6-liter diesel engine.

For the 1.2-liter diesel engine, KBA got the proposed measures as of end-November, highlighted primarily by a software update, which was already sufficient.

Volkswagen is currently in the process of developing the cornerstones of its 2025 strategy, which it plans to present next year, reveals Matthias Muller.

The company has announced plans last month to cut spending further and to delay some new car projects as it faces growing costs of the emissions scandal, forcing it to put a lid on capital expenditures next year.

It seems that the buyback offer from Volkswagen would be more cost-effective for the German carmaker in the long run especially for the earlier models compared to software fixes which are the ideal strategies for the newer trim levels.

But it remains to be seen if VW car owners would also agree to the buyback offer with open arms because some critics are saying that the German carmaker might give a price that is no longer commensurate with the value of the VW cars when they were first rolled off the dealerships.
