Some critics have been saying that the Volkswagen Tiguan is starting to show signs of its age, and while that may be true in some regards, the model is still definitely very viable on today’s market and isn’t going away anytime soon. It’s true that it’s a bit of a niche vehicle, but it still definitely has the potential to attract enough buyers in order to become a good release for the company, and it’s quite the affordable package in the end too.
The model hasn’t been touched that much since the 2007 version, even though its model number is actually fairly recent. The changes that it’s seen since the last iteration have been mostly minimal, and many of them have been aimed at the style and interior decoration of the car, rather than the mechanical features. And yet, it’s still a great vehicle on the road and definitely offers a comfortable, solid ride for those who know how to get the most out of its performance.
Beneath the hood, the vehicle is powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder engine, similar to what can be found in the Audi TT and Volkswagen GTI, and it makes for quite the adequate driving experience, with a 200 horsepower output controlled by a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Buyers can pick between an all-wheel-drive system or front-wheel-drive, and some critics have pointed out that even the FWD version is quite adequate on its own, and definitely manages to hold its ground, leaving the AWD model slightly redundant for most buyers. Those who’re looking for a regular everyday experience shouldn’t really spend the extra money on the AWD version, most are saying – but then again, those who’re planning to take their ride out away from the main road may want to look into the AWD model.
Even the FWD version handles all sorts of terrain with relative ease however, especially when it comes to a bumpy ride on a semi-offroad terrain. Of course it’s not the kind of performance one would get from a dedicated AWD vehicle like a powerful Jeep, but it’s still more than capable for most people’s needs, and should prove to be a sufficiently powerful vehicle for the occasional day off amidst nature.
The interior of the Tiguan is starting to age a bit, but it’s still in touch with modern trends when it comes to the use of technology and similar details, while the comfort levels inside the cabin are amazing according to most reviewers. Everything is of high quality and it’s clear that the company has put a lot of effort into creating a comfy riding experience.
