American actor Vin Diesel has just teased fans on social media about his new leading lady for the sequel of his action film “XXX” which was shown in 2002. The sequel is officially titled “Xander Cage Returns” but no release date has been mentioned about it just yet.
The “Fast & Furious” actor recently posted an image of himself and Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone on his Instagram account without putting any caption on it.
The image also follows an Instagram post by the Indian beauty showing herself and a previously unidentified man behind his back as they appear to be dancing as if to tease her fans who is it that she was hanging with.
The same Instagram post by the 29-year-old Deepika has fuelled speculations about her possible Hollywood debut as some already deduced that it was Vin Diesel he was dancing with while she was mysteriously looking at the camera, notes DNA India.
The mystery, if ever that was one, was eventually answered when Vin Diesel made his own Instagram post a few days later showing him and Deepika in a selfie shot.
“XXX” is an action film directed by Rob Cohen featuring Vin Diesel as Xander Cage who is a thrill-seeking extreme sports enthusiast, stuntman, and rebellious athlete who became a reluctant spy for the National Security Agency.
Will Deepika join ‘Fast & Furious 8’
Following the tease of Vin Diesel about Deepika on his Instagram account, as his leading lady for the “XXX” sequel, rumors also started swirling that the Forbes’ third highest-paid actor of 2015 might also consider the Indian beauty for the next installment of the “Fast & Furious” film.
While everything is speculation at this point in time, it is worth noting that a lesser known Indian actor Ali Fazal also had a small role in “Fast & Furious 7,” notes Enstarz.
In a recent interview, Padukone did not say initially what she was working on with Diesel and that it is for fans to find out soon.
Now the cat is already out of the bag that it is going to be “Xander Cage Returns,” and it would be interesting to see if Vin Diesel will also take her to “Fast & Furious 8,” considering that he is also the producer of the upcoming film due to hit theaters on April 15, 2017.
Deepika says that Vin is a friend who she is extremely fond of. She also says that Diesel is an amazing person.
Confirming spinoffs and prequels
Vin Diesel, meanwhile, confirmed the speculations when he said that the writers of the “Fast & Furious” franchise have already written out story lines for various characters because they have been toying with the idea for a long time. Diesel is also one of the producers of the successful movie franchise under Universal Pictures.
But the actor refuses to divulge who among the characters of the franchise shall have the possibility of a prequel or a spinoff.
In an interview, Vin Diesel said that “Fast & Furious 8” may be the start of the trilogy to conclude the film franchise, but that does not prevent them from producing and coming out with prequels and spinoffs.
Donna Langley, chairman of Universal Pictures also confirmed the possibility of more spinoffs from the movie series by saying that there is now an ongoing discussion to broaden the reach of the franchise.
Speculations are rife that it could be Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s character Luke Hobbs who has the biggest chance of having either a prequel or spinoff. It is also possible that the spinoffs may also include the character of Kurt Russell’s Mr. Nobody because it is full of mystery.
There is also the possibility of having a spinoff to feature the Shaw brothers, Owen and Deckard, played by Luke Evans and Jason Statham, respectively, who are obviously big action stars themselves.
