Cast members of the historical drama TV series “Vikings” revealed some spoilers for the upcoming Season 4. After an impressive series finale for Season 3, there is more in store for the next season of the popular TV series.
The “Vikings” ComicCon panel was composed of Travis Fimmel (Ragnar), Katheryn Winnick (Lagertha), Clive Standen (Rollo), Alexander Ludwig (Bjorn) and series writer, Michael Hirst. There were at least 10 spoilers learned from the cast, according to Design and Trend.
Fans should expect a time jump in Season 4 as Hirst promised that Ragnar’s sons will play bigger roles in the next season. The writer said that “Vikings” is not just a show about Ragnar Lothbrok but a series about Vikings, referring to the historical Norse people. Hirst added that historically speaking, some of Ragnar’s sons actually became more famous than their father.
Another revelation was that King Ragnar will entertain the idea of death in Season 4. Travis Fimmel said that next season will be about Ragnar’s fascination with death. Hirst confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the lead protagonist for the series will be at death’s door because he will fall seriously ill in the upcoming fourth season.
Ragnar’s son Bjorn, who is played by Ludwig, will embark on a spiritual quest next season as he mourns the departure of his wife. Ludwig said that his character will go to the woods to figure out his life.
Another interesting twist will be the marriage of Rollo, who is Ragnar’s younger brother, to Princess Gisla of France. Standen, who plays Rollo, said that viewers should watch out if the marriage means Rollo will betray his brother Ragnar, or it is a plan for his brother to gain another route to Paris again.
Standen gave a hint that in the next season, Rollo will try to come into his own and step out of his elder brother’s shadow.
Furthermore, England will still play as a major setting next season. Even though Paris is a major setting in the upcoming installment, fans will still get to see King Ecbert, who is played by Linus Roache, and other English characters.
Floki, who is played by Gustaf Skarsgard, will finally be arrested for the murder of Athelstan. In the trailer for Season 4 shown at ComicCon, Bjorn will order the arrest of Floki. Fans should also watch out how Ragnar will avenge the murder of Athelstan. And even though Athelstan, who is played by George Blagden, was murdered in the previous season, fans will still be able to see a glimpse of the beloved priest in Ragnar’s vision.
Hirst indicated that Athelstan will not only play a big role on Ragnar’s mind but also a big factor on King Ecbert in Wessex and his son Alfred who would eventually be known as one of the greatest English King of all time.
Also in the video trailer, Aslaug, who is played by Alyssa Sutherland, will aspire to become the ruler of Kattegat. Aslaug will ask a Seer if it is possible that a woman will succeed in Kattegat, and to her amusement, the Seer made a prophecy that one day, a woman will rule Kattegat. Aslaug could only wonder if she is that woman.
Another big revelation for the TV series will be the story arc of Lagertha, who is played by Winnick, in the upcoming season. Hirst said that Lagertha’s story arc and role is just as significant as Ragnar’s role in the series. In the trailer of Season 4, Lagertha will castrate a man, but the identity of the man remains a mystery.
The last big revelation of Hirst is that in the next season, a new woman will appear in Ragnar’s life. The writer said that this was a possible connection when he discussed it with a historical expert. The new woman is rumored to be Yidu, who is played by Dianne Doan, a Chinese slave seized in the Red Sea.
