‘Vikings’ Season 4 to Feature King Ragnar’s Fascination with Death

While it is unlikely for his character King Ragnar Lothbrok to die in the historical drama TV series “Vikings” anytime soon, actor Travis Fimmel, the actor who plays the role, says that Ragnar is not afraid of dying.

Although Ragnar was on death throes during the series finale of Season 3, it is likely that he will recover from the ordeal and come out stronger than ever before.

During the “Vikings” panel at the ComicCon 2015, Fimmel was with showrunner Michael Hirst to answer fan queries about the upcoming Season 4 of the popular TV series on the History channel.

Fimmel said that Ragnar got very close to dying at the series finale of Season 3. He said that Ragnar is very intrigued by death. He is also not afraid of dying. Fimmel added that Ragnar has an uncanny fascination with death just like Odin.

He also blurted out that he really likes where Michael Hirst is taking the characters in the upcoming fourth season of the show.

The actor also revealed that Ragnar will have a new special relationship in Season 4 despite Aslaug in Kattegat, saying that it is going to be a really unique relationship, notes the Youth Health Mag.

The concept of death in “Vikings” is that characters are not afraid to die instead they embrace it as part of their life.

The son also rises

Enstarz reports that Bjorn, the eldest son of King Ragnar, is also looking at stepping into the gigantic shoes of his father.

Regarded as the Prince of Denmark, Bjorn certainly knows his chops – from his leadership skills to his fighting prowess – which only show the makings of a future king.

Ragnar’s physical debacle will also enable Bjorn, as the eldest son, to shine in the upcoming Season 4.

Alexander Ludwig, the actor who plays the role of Bjorn in the “Vikings” TV series, says that his character will finally come into his own. Season 4 will see him learning from his father. But now, there’s camaraderie between the two. The actor added that Bjorn will step up and start running things when his father initially can’t. It’s really an exciting time for Bjorn and also very nerve-wracking too.

A sibling rivalry

King Rognvaldsson Rollo, portrayed by Clive Standen, will be facing the wrath of another Lothbrok other than King Ragnar in the upcoming Season 4 of “Vikings” when it returns to the History channel early next year.

It has been reported previously that the fourth season of “Vikings” will see Rollo finally coming out of his brother Ragnar’s big and imposing shadow and come into his own.

Hints also allude to the fact that Ragnar, played by actor Travis Fimmel, will encounter a major sibling rivalry with Rollo as the latter would betray him and side with Paris.

However, Rollo will not just be contending with the wrath of his brother but also that of Ragnar’s son Bjorn for his betrayal.

While Bjorn always had an amiable relationship with his uncle, that bond will finally be severed in Season 4. According to Ludwig, his character Bjorn will feel so hurt because of what his uncle will do so he will try to kill him. Bjorn believes in his eyes that there are certain things that cannot be forgiven and Rollo’s betrayal of his father is one of those.

Ludwig admits though that the necessity of negotiating with Rollo for the peaceful end of the ongoing conflict is a possibility but the fact that his uncle has turned his back on their community means that he is not coming back anymore.

vikings

Bjorn will be taking over the leadership of the Norse people while his father Ragnar heals and recuperate from the first wave of the siege against Paris. But he certainly has no compassion left in him in dealing with his traitor uncle.
