Sutherland expressed that she wanted to do more with her character on the show. She wanted to push her character into a darker slide as not many women are seen doing terrible things on television, and she hoped to break that trend with her character. She wanted Aslaug to be greedy and not an ideal housekeeper that she stuck to.
Sutherland added that not only did she but also her character was aware of her death. According to her, she negotiated and chose her way of dying. She says that she had a wonderful experience with the Vikings cast and work. Aslaugh, for her, had achieved everything she could with her abilities and had to come to an end.
Another person who knew about the character dying was Maude Hirst. Hirst and Helga are close friends not only on but off screen as well. And the two would live together every time they were in Ireland. With Aslaug being killed, Lagertha has been established as the queen.
The viewers are looking forward to seeing how this change comes about in the view of Ragnar. They are curious to know if Ragnar will return to sit beside the love of his life or not.
