The 14th episode of the historical drama TV series “Vikings,” entitled “In the Uncertain Hour Before the Morning,” will be airing on the History Channel on December 21, and it will see King Ragnar Lothbrok, played by Travis Fimmel, negotiating a surprising concession from King Ecbert, played by Linus Roache.
The episode shall also feature the battle between Ragnar’s ex-wife Lagertha, played by Katheryn Winnick, and current wife Queen Aslaug, played by Alyssa Sutherland, notes the iTech Post.
Back in episode 13 of “Vikings” that aired on December 14, there were only a handful of Vikings who survived after their ships crashed. Some blamed Ragnar for the accident but the King of the Vikings said he has a plan.
When the night sets in, Ragnar and his son Ivar the Boneless, played by Alex Hogh, slit the throats of the other surviving Vikings and gave themselves up to King Ecbert.
Part of a strategy
The trailer for the upcoming fourteenth episode of “Vikings” Season 4 showed Ragnar in a cage in front of King Ecbert.
King Ecbert asks Ragnar why it took him too long to return. The Vikings leader told the King that it is part of his strategy.
But the King also knows that something is not right with Ragnar’s plans. He believes that Ragnar is coming after Prince Aethelwulf discovered a piece of black raven banner and also learned about the murdered Vikings.
King Ecbert, in fact, told Ragnar that he is a dangerous man on earth, to which Ragnar replied that the King has nothing to worry about and he should not be afraid at all.
Bonding moments
Other than the father and son massacre thing, Ragnar and Ivar actually shared some nice bonding moments back in episode 13
It meant everything to Ivar to hear his father admit that he was wrong about wanting to kill him as a child, and tell him that he sees the greatness in him, notes TV Fanatic.
While previous speculations were saying that it would be Ragnar’s first-born son Bjorn Ironside, played by Alexander Ludwig, who shall be the next leader of the Vikings, it seems like the title will go to the strongest among the sons of the Norse king and that is no other than Ivar.
Beginning with the second half of Season 4 of “Vikings,” Ragnar has encouraged his son Ivar to be his successor and the Norse king has started imparting his knowledge to Ivar on how to become an effective ruler of his people.
The midseason premiere of “Vikings” also saw Ragnar Lothbrok returning to Kattegat after a self-imposed hiatus after tasting defeat in the hands of his brother Rollo, played by Clive Standen, during their second raid of Paris.
After the midseason finale of “Vikings” Season 4 in April, nobody knows what happened to Ragnar. Apparently, he will return as a defeated man into Kattegat and would find himself unwanted by his sons and also disrespected by his people.
Based on a previous teaser of the second half of “Vikings” Season 4 released recently, it seems that Rollo will come to a realization that he is still a Viking despite being in Paris to join Charles.
In an exclusive promo released by IGN recently, Rollo was shown regretting his decision and was even quoted as saying that he cannot deny that part of him is still a Viking no matter how he hard he tries to get rid of it.
In a recent interview, actor Clive Standen said that the time of Rollo’s life is where he left his Viking gods behind for a long time and it is time for him to see whether he made the right decision or not.
The actor added that Rollo is now undergoing mid-life crisis so he is hedging his best between the two sets of gods – his Viking gods and the Christian gods.
There are even reports saying that Rollo might decide to return to his roots in Kattegat and work together with his brother King Ragnar Lothbrok.
