Vikings Season 3 is on-air after the History Channel agreed to another 10-episode season. The season is in production and is slated to release in 2015 summer. The trailer for Vikings Season 3 was aired on Comic Con earlier this year.
Series writer Michael Hirst has taken the story of the mythological Norse hero Ragnar Lothbrok to create a series. Ragnar has a humble beginning as a farmer, but after raiding different regions in England with his family and friends, he eventually gains fame and fortune. In Viking Season 3, Ragnar decides to raid Paris.
Paris was then considered to be one of the richest cities. It belonged to the Romans, and Hirst says that it was unlike any other city on earth. Vikings Season 3 will make use of CGI to create a magnificent Paris and action sequence that will make the raids look realistic. Ragnar had used hundred ships to attack Paris, and this scene will be the focus of the series.
Vikings Season 3 is expected to be more bloody and gruesome than the previous seasons. The producers have seen the huge popularity of shows like Game of Thrones that incorporates a lot of action and violence, and they are making use of the same formula. The season is speculated to witness the death of Athelstan, played by George Blagden.
This speculation arose when Blagden accepted the role of Louis XIV for a miniseries. Fans felt that he accepted the new role because his part on Vikings will end after his character Athelstan, dies. Athelstan is one of the powerful characters. He has had a strong influence on everyone. He gave rise to anger in Rollo, jealousy in Floki and in Ragnar he created curiosity. Ragnar’s consideration of worshiping a foreign god is because of Athelstan’s influence.
Vikings Season 3 will focus on the developing relationship between Rollo and Bjorn. Ragnar isn’t happy with the development, because he doesn’t trust Rollo’s motives. He wants his nephew Bjorn, as far from Rollo as possible, but Bjorn doesn’t pay heed to his words. The season will show Bjorn and Rollo growing from experiences surrounding their friendship.
Katheryn Winnick, who plays the role of Lagertha and Alexander Ludwig, who plays Bjorn, has both gone on record to say that Vikings Season 3 will be grittier and far better than the previous two seasons. Winnick has also said that some of the most beloved characters will die in season 3. Although it was painful, the Vikings are set to have a great new season.
Vikings Season 3 will show Ragnar coming to power and the subsequent problems associated with power.
