Damon will find himself in an interesting situation in season 7 of “Vampire Diaries”, as even though the love of his life is currently held in a magic sleep, Damon will apparently get involved with another character in a slightly more unusual type of “romance”. The writers have apparently been preparing an unusual development in the plot that might be taken in a bit of a strange way by some fans, but it should definitely shake things up in a positive way.
The hints came from Caroline Dries, who handles the production of the show. Season 7 will take a deeper look at the relationship of Damon and Stefan, and while this is not a traditional love story for most people, Dries had the opinion that it’s actually a very good love story, although admittedly not the kind that most people are used to.
She went on to explain that in the end, the two characters make up most of the important plot developments in the show as a whole, and they are actually the true love story of this season, whether fans like the idea or not. She described Elena and other characters as people who’ve been trying to come between the brothers and interrupt their romance, so she seemed pretty serious on the idea that the two of them are a true love story that the writers want to explore in more detail.
But as usual, they will not be able to continue their relationship without any trouble, as they will face someone new trying to get between them – this time it’s Lily. She will introduce a lot of negative drama to the relationship of the two characters in the new season, but we have no doubt that Damon and Stefan will be able to overcome that issue in the end.
Lily might be more trouble than fans are suspecting though, as the writers will likely use her to cause problems on multiple fronts in the show. We will likely see her trying to drive a wedge between Enzo and Damon, for example, and it’s not clear how the characters plan to deal with her presence, but one thing is for sure – she’s someone that has to be dealt with as quickly as possible.
Even though the two characters have been together for so long and they understand each other better than anyone else, we shouldn’t underestimate the potential for someone external to introduce some permanent damage in their relationship. And right now, Lily looks like she’s very capable of that and is also trying hard to achieve that goal.
Hopefully she won’t be successful in the end, and the two will deal with her before she’s managed to do anything truly bad. But some fans have been speculating that this will not be the case exactly. According to some theories that have been going around messaging boards, Lily might end up undermining the relationship between Damon and Stefan so badly that they would have trouble trusting each other in the future.
While this might be a bit too much for the show’s fans to swallow, we can also see the writers doing something like this if they wanted to shake up the plot significantly after six seasons. This is not a show that takes its drama lightly sometimes, and we wouldn’t be surprised if they really were planning to make the two characters face something seriously bad.
