Upcoming Apple iOS 9 Will Support Out-of-Production Devices Including the iPhone 4S

The iPad 2 was not mentioned but since it is running on the A5 SoC, it is likely included in the list of older devices to be supported by iOS 9 when it officially rolls out soon.

If reports are indeed true about the new mobile operating system being able to provide support to older Apple devices, then this would be the longest that the American tech giant has ever provided software updates for any one iPhone model.

Whenever Apple releases a new iOS, it normally supports four iPhone generations at a time. But for iOS 9, the support could include from 2011’s iPhone 4S up to whatever smartphones Apple would be launching in September this year.

There are two sets of rumors as to the kind of flagship smartphones that Apple would be launching in September this year. One says that it would be the iPhone 6S, the iPhone 6S Plus, and the iPhone 6C. The other set of rumors speculate that it would be the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. The Apple launching event in September will prove which rumor is true and which is not.
