The widely-lauded Asus ZenFone 2 was launched in its home market of Taiwan in the middle of March with two major variants. A few weeks later, the latest smartphone from Asus has already made it to other key Asian markets like China, Hong Kong and Singapore, also with two variants.
It started rolling out in France in the first week of April with two variants, slated to hit the Indian market in the last week of April, and reports also have it that the Asus ZenFone 2 will also make it to the Brazilian retail market in June.
Indeed, the Asus ZenFone 2 hit the Indian retail market on April 23 and surprisingly, it came out with four variants of the smartphone, very much unlike when it hit its home market last month or the other key Asian markets subsequently.
Looking closely at the specifications and details of the four variants however, it was clear that the three models belong to one family so it is technically two main models in India as well.
The Taiwanese company only made the 5.5-inch screen variants of the smartphone lineup available in India and not the smaller 5-inch model, notes NDTV Gadgets.
The four variants
The Asus ZenFone 2 variants that hit the Indian retail markets include the Asus ZenFone 2 ZE551ML, which came out in three sub-variants, and the Asus Zenfone 2 ZE550ML.
The Asus ZenFone 2 ZE551ML model features a 4GB of RAM, 64GB of ROM or built-in storage and a 5.5-inch full HD display. It is the top-end variant of the smartphone series.
The second version of the ZE551ML model features a 4GB of RAM, 32GB of ROM and a 5.5-inch full HD display. It is very identical to the top-end variant and the difference obviously is the size of internal storage.
The third version of the ZE551ML variant comes with a 2GB of RAM, 16GB of ROM, and a 5.5-inch full HD display.
The second main variant and the fourth overall is the Asus ZenFone 2 ZE550ML which features a 2GB of RAM, 16GB of ROM, and a 5.5-inch HD display.
Other features
All of the variants of the Asus ZenFone 2 also feature the company’s new ZenUI based on Google’s Android 5.0 Lollipop that is powered by Intel Atom SoCs.
Other accessories that shall come with the smartphone include the ZenFlash, the LolliFlash, the View Flip Cover Deluxe, the ZenPower, and the ZenEar.
The Asus ZenFone 2 that rolled out in Taiwan in March had two major variants with the base 5-inch model, considered as the entry-level variant, coming out with a very affordable price of $158. It is powered by a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Atom processor.
However, the higher version featuring a 5.5-inch display with 1080-pixel resolution, a 4GB RAM and a 32GB storage came out with a remarkable price of $285.
Early this month, the Taiwanese tech company was reportedly planning to release a much higher 64GB version of the Asus ZenFone 2 which it intends to launch during its rollout to the western markets. It seems that the third variant has finally come out in India ahead of the other western markets.
