Breast enlargement is typically a safe procedure, especially with modern advances in cosmetic surgery – however, this all presumes that one goes to a licensed practitioner to get their enlargement done, instead of taking up the services of a shady, illegal “professional” with questionable credentials. Peenar Hassan from Palestine learned this the hard way, as her botched breast enlargement procedure left her needing regular surgical procedures if she wants to keep her life.
According to Hassan, it all started with a phone call advertising cosmetic surgery procedures. She said that she had wanted to get larger breasts ever since she was a child, and the call advertised procedures that can be accomplished in three sessions, costing Dh20,000. She took up the offer, taking a friend along with her for her first procedure.
The procedure itself was performed in a very unprofessional way – without even applying any anesthetic, the “doctor” inserted three syringes into the breasts and started to fill them up with an unknown substance. Hassan reports being in immense pain during the procedure. After a total of three sessions, she had to take a trip to Lebanon for half a year, and in the beginning, everything was fine according to her. She stated that her breasts looked excellent, and she reported no problems.
Later on, however, the situation changed. Her breasts became very firm quickly, and the skin turned blue. She immediately contacted the doctor who had performed the procedure originally, and set up a meeting for when she was back from her trip to Lebanon. Upon returning and visiting the doctor for a follow-up procedure, black liquid started leaking out from the implants when the doctor attempted to remove them. The sixth session proved particularly troublesome, as the doctor made a mistake and caused Hassan to pass out.
Subsequently, she found out she had developed breast cancer, and even though she had the tumor removed, this didn’t put an end to her misery. Now, the problem keeps recurring constantly, and she has to undergo surgery every three months to avoid losing her life. Doctors have informed her that substance from her “treatment” is still in her body, it’s poisonous and should not be allowed to spread.
All of this happened because Hassan trusted the services of an unlicensed practitioner. This goes to show that when it comes to something as serious as cosmetic surgery, there is absolutely no substitute for a properly licensed expert who can give the reassurance that they know what they’re doing. It’s never worth sacrificing one’s life for a slight improvement in appearance – after all, enjoying that improvement requires one to be alive in the first place, as grim as it sounds.
