After airing its first 10 episodes on CBS beginning on June 25, Season 3 of the American science-fiction drama TV series heads to its penultimate episodes in the next two Thursdays all the way to its season finale on September 10.
The main protagonist of the series, Dale ‘Barbie’ Barbara, played by Mike Vogel, is currently plagued with a virus through the work of therapist Christine, played by Marg Helgenberger, which caused him dementia. Barbie snapped out of it when Julia, played by Rachelle Lefevre, triggered something in his memory back in the woods, details Christian Today.
According to Hektor, played by Eriq La Salle, the infection of Barbie was just in a dormant phase but it could recur anytime which worried Julia all the more. She has been made aware already that the virus infection on people has no hope of recovery at all and that it shall remain with Barbie for the rest of his life.
While Julia was elated when Barbie suddenly got his memory back, but he went the extra mile by telling her that he will not be turning his back on his responsibility as a father. Barbie impregnated Eva, played by Kylie Bunburry, who is the sidekick of Christine in her devious work at Chester’s Mill. Julia does not want Barbie to go back as he may only be risking his life.
Uncharacteristically, it was only days since Eva conceived a child but it seems that she is about to give birth as her tummy appears to be that of a nine-month-old pregnant woman already.
Julia was hoping that Barbie would return and join the Resistance on their fight against Christine. However, when she started looking for him along with Norrie, played by Mackenzie Lintz, they saw Barbie and Eva making out and they felt that Barbie is now fully under the control of Christine.
Episode 11 spoilers
The 11th episode of “Under the Dome” Season 3 will air on August 27, and based on the synopsis, members of the Resistance will go all out to release their families from captivity by Christine.
However, they have to race against time as they are now fully aware of the plans for the Dome. Hektor will be enlisting the support of Season 2 antagonist-turned-good guy Big Jim, played by Dean Norris, and the rest of the gang, to test a possible cure for the townspeople. It would be interesting to find out if the antidote that they can come up with will work.
Joe, played by Colin Ford, has already been taken by Christine under her wings. Accordingly, she will disclose Joe some revealing and shocking information about the entity behind the Dome that will convince him to work for her.
Renewal hopes still a tossup
Although the ratings of “Under the Dome” for the current third season is not as high as in the past two seasons, it is nonetheless doing better than the Halle Berry-starrer “Extant” also on the same network.
Cartermatt reported that despite the dip in live ratings, the show does well in live+7 ratings, which is live viewing plus seven days of DVR viewing.
The show also has a major streaming arrangement with Amazon that provides the additional revenue stream. As much as the same feature was the reason for the renewal of “Extant” for Season 2, it is likely to trigger the renewal of “Under the Dome” for Season 4 by next year.
“Under the Dome” is one of the most-recorded shows of the week, which means that it has a good following despite not doing well in live ratings, which normally dips during summer.
However, it still does not guarantee the renewal of the show until CBS makes the official confirmation about it.
