‘Under the Dome’ Lead Actor Shares Near-Death Experience During Filming of Season 3

Four episodes into its third season, the science-fiction TV drama series “Under the Dome” on CBS is bound to witness more deaths along the way, its showrunners confirm. During the Season 3 premiere, fans saw Big Jim, played by Dean Norris, left with no choice but to kill Melanie, played by Grace Vitoria Cox, when she threatened to kill Rachel Lefevre’s Julia.

During last week’s San Diego ComicCon, executive producer Tim Schlattmann said that at least one major character will be killed off in the summer drama in Season 3. He further detailed that there will also be more insignificant deaths on the show, but these deaths will collectively matter as it is a way of answering the burning questions of the latest season.

While the show is not a newbie to deaths of its characters, it is unexpected for actors who play them to almost face death while filming. According to Cinema Blend, series lead Mike Vogel, who plays Barbie, faced a near-death experience while shooting a particular scene for the Season 3 premiere.

Vogel himself shared what happened detailing that he was getting ready to film the big cocoon scene when it started to have some technical issues due to the dry ice pumping through it. The 35-year-old actor says one second he was breathing, and then found himself left with no oxygen the next. As a result, he had to punch his way through the TV prop, ruining it in the process.

Vogel narrated the experience very calmly as actors occasionally do get into accidents during filming. Luckily, the former model was not injured but notes that lack of oxygen on the set was something really serious. Schlattmann himself was the one to crack jokes about the incident, uttering that they almost broke TV’s cardinal rule – do not kill the lead actor on the set.

On the current Season 3, the story focuses mainly on the dome’s ultimate agenda, leading the townspeople to question who they can trust and who they can’t. Producers confirm that by the end of the current season, fans will get answers as to why the dome came down and what is it all about.

Another plot highlighted this season is residents of Chester’s Mill being under the control of the town’s resident therapist and probably this season’s big bad villainess Christine Price, played by Marg Helgenberger.

Franchise Herald reports that although the 56-year-old actress’ role is initially commissioned for a guest star appearance, showrunner Neal Bear says that fans may want to watch out for her and what the series has in store for her character this season. Bear continued teasing fans saying Christine Price will definitely wreak havoc on Chester’s Mill.

During the third episode, fans saw Price upped her ante as she was able to talk Junior, played by Alexander Koch, and Joe, played by Colin Ford, into working for her. As for Big Jim, the show’s former bad guy, he has now resorted to running away from people who want to do an experiment on him. Showrunners say that Big Jim may have found his match in Ms. Price.

The latest episode to air titled “The Kinship” saw some brave residents disagreeing over the therapist taking over the town with her brainwashing and mind control schemes. Despite the town being in peril at Price’s hands, matters of the heart still took over the episode. Barbie and Julia strive to make their relationship work again as the latter is trying her best to reconcile.

Joe continues to pursue Norrie, played by Mackenzie Lintz, even though there’s already a new man in her life, Hunter. Eventually, near the episode’s end, Norrie realizes that Hunter only wants her for sex and does not actually like her. Meanwhile, Eddie Cahill’s Sam and Bess Rous’ Abby unexpectedly strike a hookup and the evil Christine herself takes a pining for Junior.
