The swelling excitement of gamers over the upcoming release of “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End,” the much-awaited action adventure third person shooter video game, went up a notch higher when news came out that the game will have a multiplayer mode.
Naughty Dog, the developer of the fourth and likely final installment to the very successful video game franchise, confirmed the report on the multiplayer feature in the February issue of Game Informer.
“Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” will roll out exclusively to Sony’s PlayStation 4 during the latter part of the year although Naughty Dog has yet to make an official announcement regarding the release date of the video game.
The first three “Uncharted” video game titles were released during the months of October through December so it is likely that the fourth edition will follow the same release date pattern.
There have also been reports of a July 2015 release for “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” because Naughty Dog also made a successful release of “The Last of Us” in July 2014.
Looking back
The first Uncharted video game released in 2007 titled “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune” did not have a multiplayer mode but the next two – “Uncharted 2: Among Thieves” released in 2009, and “Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception” unveiled in 2011 – already did.
The mode highlighted the replayability of the video game for some gamers. It was to be a good sign of the game’s continued acceptance.
The multiplayer mode of the last two Uncharted games were so successful that in 2013, Naughty Dog launched a stand-alone free-to-play multiplayer game, which was again a hit among gamers.
Naughty Dog was said to have mentioned then that it will take the same strategy with its future games, which means that the developer may eventually employ the same tack with the multiplayer mode of “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.”
Drake’s best adventure
“Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” has been reported to be Nathan Drake’s best adventure in the series. It takes place three years after the events of “Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception” where Drake’s has considerably changed after retiring from treasure-hunting.
However, because of some developments where his fate and those close to him were put in the balance, Drake was forced to go back into his old ways.
In the storyline of the game, he is joined by his brother Sam, and the two of them search for the mythical pirate utopia in Madagascar. Naughty Dog formally introduced Sam’s character during the PlayStation Experience expo held in December 2014 through an extended gameplay demo where brothers Nathan and Sam tease more of what’s at stake for gamers.
Sam will have a crucial role in unfolding the mystery in the adventure. And Drake will only found out about it towards the end of the quest.
