Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Introduces ‘Capture the Flag’ Type of Multiplayer Game Called Plunder!

The fourth and final chapter of the open world action-adventure third-person shooter video game franchise “Uncharted” will be officially released exclusively on the PlayStation 4 on May 10, but game developer Naughty Dog pulled a surprise to fans this past weekend at a gaming event.

Naughty Dog joined the PAX East event on April 22 to 24 and gave anxiously awaiting fans of “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” with a weekend treat by making a new multiplayer mode on the game playable in the PlayStation booth all weekend long.

It is actually a ‘capture the flag’ type of multiplayer game with a twist of “Uncharted” and it is officially called as the Plunder Mode, reports the PlayStation Blog.

Just like the previous multiplayer modes in “Uncharted 2” and “Uncharted 3,” teamwork is very important in winning the match as the players are tasked with finding the idol on the map and bringing it to their home treasure chest.

Playable on three maps and teams of four

The Plunder Mode is also playable on the three maps of the game including Island, Madagascar City, and Rooftops.

The game is almost the same as the classic Plunder game type in previous “Uncharted” games but with some modifications.

From a five-on-five gaming experience, Naughty Dog has changed it to four-on-four which means, eight players can play at the same time instead of the previous 10.

The Plunder Mode on “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” also differs from “Uncharted 2” and “Uncharted 3” because players compete in teams of four to hold onto the idol and they can also traverse the map while holding it, details Polygon.

Throwing the idol around still remains as a core part of the multiplayer gameplay and the teamwork strategies on how to do it better is another key to winning the game over the opposing team or teams.

Naughty Dog is confident that the Plunder Mode will be one of the most sought-out gameplay features of “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” when it finally comes out exclusively on the PlayStation 4 on May 10, which is actually a two-week push back from the original release date of April 26.

The demise of the game’s protagonist

If the title of “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” is any indication, protagonist Nathan Drake would likely meet his demise in the fourth and final iteration of the video game franchise.

The death of Nathan Drake in the upcoming video game “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” was actually hinted by Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann in a recent interview when he said that the best way for the series to end is to honor the protagonist where he shall go out on top and finish his story.

Over the past three games in the series, Nathan Drake has proven himself to be a hard man to kill. However, he is a mortal person despite overcoming a lot of death-defying situations in the past.

While Neil Druckmann did not say directly that Nathan Drake will die in “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End,” he did say that it is very remote for publisher Sony to bring back the video game title in the future following the end of the upcoming game.

Given the strong feeling of permanence in Druckmann’s statements, it only suggests that “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” will take a turn for the worse.

Many gamers and critics believe that it does not make sense for Naughty Dog to kill off such a beloved character. However, Naughty Dog has killed off major characters three times in one of its popular video games “The Last of Us.”

While none of those characters were main protagonists in “The Last of Us,” it only shows that Naughty Dog is not afraid to take storytelling risks that will surprise even its fans.
