Ubisoft’s Renaming of Assassin’s Creed: Victory to Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate Overlooks Historical Inaccuracy

Canadian developer Ubisoft has recently renamed its upcoming video game “Assassin’s Creed: Victory” to “Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate” through a trailer that debuted early this week but it seems that the company has overlooked one major historical inaccuracy.

The trailer of “Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate featured a scene where a train carries a British Railways logo. The game is set in 1868, during the Victorian era of London and the problem lies in the fact that it was not until 1928 when the British Railways come about, details Gamespot.

This observation was actually pointed out by an astute gamer on the public forum Reddit.

But Ubisoft has a built-in excuse for the historical inaccuracy because the nature of the video game itself, just like the past games of the franchise, history and the past are being accessed only through the genetic memories of someone in the present day.

So some mix-up or misalignment in historical facts and data may be forgiveable, without Ubisoft really explaining it that way.

The nature of the series really leaves Ubisoft a good leg room to extricate itself out of historical oversights just like the one recently noted on its upcoming game “Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate.”

Gamespot describes the aberration to a present-day person suffering from indigestion rather than a debilitating illness.

It can be noted that most of the “Assassin’s Creed” games have occasional historical lapses too. The franchise Notre Dame game several years back was modified to make it more interesting for the genre.

Release date

Ubisoft’s upcoming game “Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate,” is set to be release on the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4, and the PC on October 23, according to the developer.

“Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate” lead writer Darby McDevitt said that Ubisoft writers have created 500, 600, 700 years worth of history so that they can start teasing it out for the next 10, 20 years, or however long they will be around.

He added that he has been working over the last two years with all the other Ubisoft writers and they all have pieced together voluminous documents on the First Civilization.

“Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate” is the ninth game in the historical fiction action-adventure open world stealth video game series that follows the successful launch of “Assassin’s Creed: Unity” and “Assassin’s Creed: Rogue in November last year.

When Ubisoft launched “Assassin’s Creed Unity” in November, it had numerous bugs and glitches that it was actually met by criticisms from fans and gamers that prompted the Canadian-based game developer to release patches containing fixes.

The developer kept mum on its latest video game “Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate” so much so that when a seven-minute gameplay footage of the game was leaked to the internet recently, fans and gamers got dismayed with Ubisoft for keeping them in the dark as regards the future plans for the game.
