Donald Trump has already been making some interesting headlines with his presidency, and it looks like things are just getting started. While many are cautious about what could come in the near future, there are also some who are expressing more optimism at what he might bring to the table. So far, we’ve seen some interesting bits of news involving the new US President, including some rather humorous ones.
For example, someone has recently spotted some apparent similarities between Trump’s inauguration speech and lines spoken by a notorious Batman villain, Bane.
The specific quote from Trump is “Today we are not merely transferring power from one administration or another … we are transferring power from Washington DC and giving it back to you – the people”, which, according to some, sounds quite similar to “We take Gotham from the corrupt! The rich! The oppressors of generations who have kept you down with myths of opportunity, and we give it back to you – the people”.
While it’s possible that this might have been an accidental reference, it’s pretty much impossible to expect Trump to confirm that Bane was his actual inspiration in writing the speech. Regardless, many have been trying to get a comment out of the new US President, who has declined to respond.
On the other hand, we’ve seen plenty of comments about Trump’s inauguration speech from other sides, including some rather detailed analysis of its contents and the tone and language used throughout the whole speech.
According to some of those examinations, the speech stands out from those delivered by other presidents in the past for various reasons, one example being the fact that it refers to America at least 35 times, significantly more than any other president has done in the past.
Still, the attention Trump received for his speech was a bit underwhelming, all things considered. While many expected a huge turnout and record-breaking viewership, reports indicate that this was actually quite far from the case, with around 30 million people tuning in to listen to the new President.
According to the same reports, this is significantly less than Obama in 2009, even though the speech is still the fifth highest recorded so far in terms of total viewers. The most viewed inauguration speech for a US president so far has been that of Ronald Reagan in 1981, when over 41 million people watched simultaneously.
So far, Trump seems to be generating a lot of buzz in the press, but whether he’ll be able to continue that for a lot longer is questionable, according to some. There are some skeptics claiming that his popularity at the moment is the result of a rather shocking approach to his marketing, and he’s successfully built up some momentum so far. However, whether he’ll be able to maintain it is a different story, according to those commenters.
It’s worth pointing out that those statements aren’t actually that commonly repeated and they seem to be coming from a vocal minority more than anything, but it’s hard to predict how things will go in the future.
The new President does seem to be drawing a lot of attention from his opponents though, so we expect to see even more outrageous claims made about him in the future. So far, he’s been displaying a general disregard for the way his statements are being received and doesn’t seem too phased by the negativity that surrounds him in many circles.
