For now, we’ll have to wait a few months to see what’s going on behind the scenes. Even if the third season has already been confirmed in private talks, it could be a long time before we get to hear the official news about it.
On the other hand, there will likely be some hints here and there indicating what’s going on. Things like large-scale casting, and changes in important roles can’t really be hidden from the public eye, and it won’t be long before people catch on and realize what’s going on.
Hopefully, whoever takes over the show already has some good ideas for it and has been following its progress from the very beginning. “True Detective” should most certainly not be given to any random director who sees it as yet another bullet point in their portfolio, no matter how desperate the show might be for a revival.
A publication even joked with the idea that HBO could just rerun the first season and call it season 3. And while that’s obviously intended in a humorous way, some fans may actually enjoy revisiting the first season of the show with a fresh coat of paint, and experiencing those magic episodes all over again. Could a reboot be the answer everyone has been looking for? And is there place for one in the current lineup of HBO?
