True Detective Season 3 Hopefully Will Revive The Charm Of The First Season, Fans Want Original Cast Back. Will Matthew McConaughey Join Season 3?

True Detective started with a great review from the critics and the viewers. However, things went downhill in the second season. The show failed to live up to the expectations of the first season and reports suggest that one of the main reason for the failure of True Detective Season 2 was the absence of Matthew McConaughey.

The actor stole the show in Season 1 of True Detective, where he played the role of Detective Rust Cohle. His ponytail and monologs won the viewers. Fans have been waiting for news of him reprising the role of Rust Cohle in True Detective Season 3, and it looks like the actor wants the same.

Matthew McConaughey confirmed his wish to reprise the role of Rust Cohle in True Detective Season 3 while talking at the Rich Eisen Show. Rich Eisen had asked McConaughey about his opinion on returning to True Detective, and the actor was open about it.

However, the producers haven’t contacted him for the same. This hasn’t stopped Matthew McConaughey from being vocal about his decision to take up the role in True Detective Season 3. He said that he would jump at the offer the moment it is placed before him.

Matthew McConaughey is aware that the idea of him coming back to True Detective for the third season looks more of a possibility since all the fans want the same. However, he hasn’t had a word with the creator of the show, Nic Pizzolatto. Pizzolatto is taking a break from the show. If his character is written into the show, he wouldn’t think twice before agreeing to it.

The Independent reported that the plot dealing with Rust Cohle and Marty Hart (Woody Harrelson) had been wrapped up in the first season of True Detective. However, fans are hoping that Nic Pizzolatto will come up with a prequel to the story shown in Season 1 so that he can bring back the original characters from Season 1 of True Detective.

Matthew McConaughey, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams went on to create magic on screen. Given that fans are asking for these actors to come back, many want True Detective to follow the policy of American Horror Story where the same actors are recast in different stories.

The show has had a dismal run in the second season and the only way Nic Pizzolatto can revive the fate of his pet project would be to get Matthew McConaughey back. While this would deviate from the original anthology concept of the show, it will guarantee a hit.

Nic Pizzolatto is taking a break from True Detective so that he can work with Robert Downey Jr. on a secret project. AV Club reported that Pizzolatto and Robert Downey Jr. might be working on rebooting Perry Mason. True Detective Season 3 is on the cards for sure since the writer is still contract-bound with HBO.

HBO management has also confirmed that True Detective will see a third season and the failure of the second season hasn’t forced them to cancel the show. The programming chief of HBO, Casey Bloys confirmed True Detective Season 3, but then no plans have been made for the third season.

The creator and producers aren’t going to be hasty while working on True Detective Season 3. Pizzolatto had already revealed that he had messed up the second season since he was forced to stick to a deadline. It is clear that HBO will work to make sure that Pizzolatto is in his comfort zone while working on the third season of True Detective.
