It was also noted that series creator Pizzolatto once told Vanity Fair that Season 2’s inspiration was drawn from mythology going as far as Oedipus Rex, hence, McAdam’s character name, so the show’s rough start may actually be just an ice-breaker.
It’s a bold and risky move for shows of this kind but every program needs a second chance to redeem itself and Season 2 of “True Detective” episode 2 entitled “Night Finds You” just saw that silver lining to make that redemption happen. The episode saw the lives of the characters finally making some interactions on a case and the season’s main plot starts to unveil albeit in minimal progress.
While the show definitely is struggling to bring its A-game back on, the final moments episode 2 saw a mysterious masked man shooting Ray flat on his chest with his body lying on the ground.
Although the episode’s plot twist was a close attempt to draw back audience to the magic of “True Detective” by possibly killing off a main character not even halfway through the season, fans still believe the season will come off as fairly predictable. However, the internet is still abuzz if Farrell’s detective Ray will live on until the rest of the season let alone live another day in the next episode.
