It’s been suspected for a while that this would happen, and for many people who follow the auto industry closely, this shouldn’t really be surprising – but the new Colorado has just received Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year Award. According to Motor Trend, this has been a somewhat easy decision to make, as pretty much no other model on the market offers a similar combination of features in this price range.
The truck has a good set of parameters, looks good on the outside, and offers a comfortable ride, all while coming at a relatively modest price that makes it an accessible offer for many potential buyers. The Colorado still had some competition to beat before it got its award though – Motor Trend had a total of ten trucks to compare and review, including another model by Chevrolet, the Silverado 3500 HD.
Other entries included models from Ford, and while there was some speculation that it would be Ford indeed that takes the prize in the end, the Colorado not only managed to get the first place, but it actually did so with an unanimous vote. Nobody wanted to even vote for another vehicle, all eyes were entirely on Chevy’s entry – and this certainly says a lot about its potential as a new model on the market.
Jonny Lieberman went as far as to describe the 2015 Chevy Colorado as the best experience he’s actually ever had with a truck, and he was quite energetic in describing his positive attitude towards the truck in great detail.
The new Colorado isn’t a massive truck, it’s actually a quite compact model, but it packs some serious power under the hood, and it’s an overall great configuration of features for the price it’s offered at. It doesn’t seem to try and tackle any particular niche of the market, it’s more of an all-around vehicle that is good at many things, and should fit the needs of most truck drivers just fine. Of course, those who want to get something better can still do so through various types of upgrades, and there’s certainly lots of room for that in the new Colorado – but even the base package is more than adequate and worth the money.
Now, all it takes is for Chevrolet to take everything they’ve learned with the design of this year’s Colorado, and apply it to the next model even more successfully. The Colorado is already a well-established name in its market segment, and if Chevy continue the trend, they could secure a very, very solid position on the market for themselves, one that it will be very hard to shake them off from.
