Megatron will rise from the ashes once again, in the latest installment of the “Transformers” franchise. If there’s one thing that’s constant in this franchise, it’s obviously Megatron.
Following a string of cryptic warnings over the past week, Megatron himself has revealed that he will be the main villain for “Transformers: The Last Knight” in the film’s latest teaser. This revelation follows after the fifth “Transformers” film got its official title.
There’s no footage yet of the movie as pre-production has just commenced, but the film’s official Twitter account showed a 19-second short video in Morse code saying “I’m coming for you May 31.”
On May 31, it was then revealed that Megatron will be back as the film’s ultimate big bad once again. Along with this, film director Michael Bay has posted a set video that reveals the automotive form of a new robot character.
According to Bay’s Instagram post, the “Transformers 5” villain in the teaser appears to be the new face of Megatron.
The iconic leader of the Decepticons appeared in the first “Transformers” film. He then came back in “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” and again in “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.” By the fourth film, “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” he came back again but as another evolved Transformer known as Galvatron.
The character was voiced by Hugo Weaving in the first three films, and then by veteran voice actor Frank Welker in the fourth film. Welker voiced the original Megatron in the cartoon series.
Details about the upcoming film are still scarce but Optimus Prime, voiced by Peter Cullen, is once again expected to return and carry another epic battle against Megatron.
“Transformers: The Last Knight” is expected to hit theaters on June 23, 2017, a decade after the first Transformer movie was released. It will be released in 3D, Real3D, IMAX 3D, and 2D.
The science action film installment has now grown into a family friendly movie franchise. The first film was released in 2007, followed by a sequel in 2009 and another one in 2011. Three years after, a fourth movie was inked.
The franchise is set to expand with a Bumblebee spin-off movie planned for 2018 and another Transformers sequel slated to be released in 2019.
The fifth installment of the Transformer franchise will see the return of “Transformers: Age of Extinction” star Mark Wahlberg as Cade Yeager. Josh Duhamel shall also return as Lieutenant Colonel William Lennox after being absent in the fourth film.
“Growing Up Fisher” actress Isabela Moner joins the cast as the female lead. The Nickelodeon star is set to play the role of Izabella, a street-smart tomboy who grew up an orphan and was raised in a foster care home.
Jerrod Carmichael and John Wick are also set to play unspecified roles in the film.
Meanwhile, Jean Dujardin and Stephen Merchant are rumored to appear in the movie, while Tyrese Gibson has been campaigning for his character, Lennox’s fellow soldier Robert Epps, to return.
Michael Bay has addressed that he acknowledges Gibson’s plea but has not yet spoken whether the “Fast and the Furious” actor will be included in the film’s roster.
Principal photography already commenced last month in Havana, Cuba and production for the film are set to begin on June 6 in Detroit with filming planned to take place at various locations around the world.
Additional locations include Chicago and London where the film will be under the working title E75. In Detroit, filming will take place in Michigan Motion Pictures Studio, Packard Plant, Michigan Central Station, Café D’Mongo Speakeasy, and MGM Grand Detroit.
“Transformers: Age of Extinction” was released two years ago and just last week, Michael Bay posted the first behind-the-scene photo from the upcoming film.
